I'm going to call myth on this one. I know that 90% of the effort is the last 10% of the work, but the way the computer industry works, the last 6% of the work never gets done. Ever. We're lucky when they get the major crashing bugs corrected before a "new major version" is sold at us.tonedef71 wrote:The reality with any complex software is that it is perpetually a moving target, as never-ending loose ends will always be getting tied up.

New features create new bugs. Older bugs get pushed back. Lather... rinse... repeat. The last 6% lives on indefinitely.Jace-BeOS wrote:I'm going to call myth on this one. While we are on the subject of software myth...

Practically every area of the display can be hidden with a click of a button (several are in the top right corner). The browser on the left can be hidden. The whole lower section can be hidden or can be reduced with a button at the top right of the buttons (Menu) section.poshook wrote:OK back to GUI. I really like how the waveform looks. BUT there are a tons of free space on the bottom. When I open default EQ GUI it is placed over 1/2 of bottom area which means 50cm on my two display setup. That is crazy.
The right section is like that to obviate the need for a mixer. It's been like that for seven versions precisely because that's where mixing happened and it allows easy and quick access to anything on any track. Many Tracktion users prefer it that way and didn't see a need the new dedicated mixer, so it would be completely contrary to make any drastic change to it. But you can hide it if you wish.poshook wrote: I would remake the right section as well. Now with plugins, pan and volume pluguins looks very strange and messy. It could be displayed only for selected track (similar to Logic or Cubase style inspector). Overall direction is nice, the potential of the new mixer for future updates is huge

Downloaded the demo.
Tried to open an MP4 video, silently ignores the open and simply shows no videl loaded.
Converted MP4 to AVI and that SEEMED to load, pressing PLAY caused Waveform to silently crash to the desktop.
Ever since T6 video playback hasn't worked for me and I'm starting to score for animation. I REALLY hoped Waveform would work, but obviously it's not the right tool for my current needs.
And yes, I've reported the bug for T6 and T7.. many times.. and been ignored.
I spent my upgrade money on SONAR Professional, which opens MP4 video fine, and am scoring away. I sure wish Waveform worked, the workflow is 100% betteer than SONAR for me.
But, times change. I hope everyone else has a blast with Waveform!

Interesting. The first DAW I've been interested in for years. Downloading. I've always heard good things about the workflow of Tracktion.

There's a codec pack sometimes mentioned on the Tracktion forum. I'll see if I can find it...SyntheticAurality wrote:Downloaded the demo.

...link below; probably better if you look and decide, since I've not tried adding any codecs.

Yeah the more i spend with waveform the more i appreciate the new features. I always thought midi was a weak point for Tracktion in the past but Waveform's new composition tools and the ability to use a full size midi edit window on my second monitor have made working with midi a lot of fun. Its also been running solid here on Windows 10 since release too which is a huge improvement over prior Tracktion releases on my system. So far, id say for me Waveform feels like a solid step in the right direction for the company

Just wanted to say that I think Waveform is pretty great. The added capabilities of the midi section and separate mixer screen alone are huge improvements from T7, and maybe less important but still appreciated, the tweaks to the color scheme/appearance are really nice as well. I've had zero problems running it in windows 10 so far.
I've actually looked pretty hard at some of the other DAW's out there in recent months (Studio one, FL, Reaper), and actually switched to Reaper for a while, but I think I'm 100% back with waveform. Although I still have wish list items- better video cababilties, and a better routing matrix in place of the rack system. Keep up the good work!

Anyone knows about a good tutorial series one could buy/follow to quickly get up to speed with Waveform?

Tracktion has posted several videos to youtube that may help. A nice new complete groove 3 video would be nice.

In the manuals section on the Tracktion site, there's a manual that's being converted from the T7 one. Don't know how much Waveform is in it though.

Is it possible to record live audio output in realtime?
Not bounce in place or render, but route any combination of tracks/master to a track for recording like in analog days or Live/Reaper?

Yes you just make the output of one track the input of the one you want to record into
I like to record an audio and midi take at the same time

Composition tools seem amazing! Anyone used them yet and can comment. Seems very deep and well thought out! That would be the only reason for me personally to update.
