Exponential Audio: R2

Post

The thing is, they aren't customers at all, from exponential's pov.
Potential customers certainly, but no more.

*unless they were already.

*Sadly, this could be viewed as an opportunity for them imho.
I fear they wont be able to see it that way.

Well, not that I want to nitpick, but, we are in fact exchanging our customer information" in exchange for receiving the plugin. I'm pretty sure that constitutes some kind of business relationship that allows them to send an email. I get it, but I don't think that it's an unreasonable thing to view recipients of free wares as a "customer" in casual language. Probably the correct term is "user", because, whether we're free or paid, we are "users" and the sentence reads the same if you substitute user for customer. You don't want to alienate your users, in fact, especially so if they are not yet "customers."

I mean, really, I'm pretty sure that this isn't the conversation that exponential audio wants people to be having on the front page of one of the most popular plugin sites. They'd probably rather that we were talking about how great of a reverb R2 is and debating the value of upgrading to R4.

If anybody has no use for and feels the need to get rid of their R2 serial, I can take it of your hands free of charge, as I have a freakin' iLok dongle waiting for it here. So don't be shy, I'm here to help.

Agreed, I think the root of their problem is that that guy is obviously a dick
who should not be representing his company in a public forum. Some decorum
could have gone a long way here. Instead he pisses everyone off. Not smart.

Personally I am certainly not going to do that - I made the decision not to make use of that freebie because I don't at all like that they force customers to use a physical dongle instead of letting the user choose (like most vendors such as Soundtoys and Eventide do) - I can't see a reason besides spite and/or mere stubbornness for that, so I'll be spiteful and stubborn in return.

If I'd pass mine on to someone with a dongle, I'd still positively sanction them - that's how I see it.

I am serious too.

^If you change your mind, I'm here...

BTW, what's the meaning of your sig? Do you totally agree with that user or is somehow ironic?

Unfortunately this seems to be the case. Didn't Exponential not long a go manage to piss off a lot of people by sending out an extremely smug and arrogant letter about deletions in their mail list? Of course they tried to do some damage control later.

And their stubborn insistence on dongle is laughable considering all their plugins have been cracked anyway.

It's pretty easy to piss forum people off. And i'm not talking about the general population. I don't think it's even a big thing among the general population, let alone many thought about selling their freebies and all that. Forum people are weird. for the most part of them, that's why they are forum people.

BTW: It's really the same like it has been many times before. Company XY gives out a freebie, KVR is like :x :x :x . Wonder if people even still notice it. Frankly, if you don't have anything better to do than rant about freebies on the net, it's really time to make some music. Or take a walk. Or a bike ride. Or do something else more productive than ranting on the net. And, yes, i do realize that that is pretty patronizing. I can't help but consider this to be a very wealth spoiled behavior. And first world problems par excellence.

As a Focusrite audio interface owner, Exponential Audio's R2 was definitely a pleasant surprise for the monthly plugin collective promotion.

R2 was the only Exponential Audio reverb that I did not own and it was doubtful that I would have purchased it, due to the fact that I already have a R4 license available on my iLok.

A very very nice KVRist actually donated me his R2 code. :D

Thank you again, Steve!

Just an FYI, for those considering whether or not to purchase a R2 license from the Focusrite promotion:

-----------------------------
Michael Carnes:
"It's worth mentioning that this offer is for Focusrite customers and is free. It appears that a few people are attempting to sell the license code to other people. We'll do a little account-matching when this is all over and there's the chance that those sold licenses will stop working. So caveat emptor. "
-----------------------------

It does not impact me, as I used my own promotion code, but it might affect others in the future. Who knows.

theres incredible and unjustifiable bitterness in this thread

if you hate dongles, then dont dongle

if you didnt spend thousands on their hardware then screw you no freebie

all this whining is useless

Could be man, but that's the conversation that people are having, whether it's justified or not. I love my iLok, so I'm not in the dongle haters camp and I'm totally enjoying my R2, however, I do think that the account matching threat is a bit over the top.

That's not what you want people to remember about your firm, you know?
