To create music that I would want to listen to... I've no real commercial aspirations with music.

Sorry about that long list on page 4. Slight dyslexia there. I thought that list was 101 items long and not 1001. But still, lists are very crucial to the point I was making. In was in response to this:

A more typical search might be ''101 Hits For Buskers''.

I don't really wanna rehash that Mozart Dice Game thread but I do stand by my point: no one really knew how Mozart created his music and dice rolling can't be ruled out. And no I don't buy that "He was too much of a genius to bother with dice"... because he did bother with it. It's called Mozart's Dice game. It has his name. Just because it's a game, doesn't mean it wasn't used for other purposes. People don't always use VST plugins exactly the way there are supposed too. I guess I went and rehashed that thread anyway. But, it wasn't me that re-mentioned it.
I still think lyrics-maker and music-maker are two different types of people because, again, most music sheet of the past gave credit to two different people. Words by person A, music by person B. So, those who are/were great at both had/has to be freaks. If they aren't freaks then what are they?
I mean Mozart wasn't great at writing lyrics, right? Neither was Bach? Nor Beethoven?
And maybe Shakespeare sucked at writing music.

But why not? What's so bad making money with your creations which I presume you loved making? And what's so bad about the masses getting, enjoyment, inspiration, anything, from what you make/made?Robmobius wrote:To create music that I would want to listen to... I am part of the masses. I'm glad Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, and David Bowie and everybody in my CD/Mp3 collection had those aspirations. If they didn't have those aspirations, my music collection would be empty and life would also be empty a bit, maybe even a lot.
I think they lie when they say "I don't want to be famous and I don't do it for the money". Maybe even Kurt Cobain lied. If they didn't want to be famous, then why are they famous? And why do they keep the money? I don't see Roger Waters giving it away. And those who do give it away don't give it ALL away.

Nothing... Did I say there was anything wrong with it? No.harryupbabble wrote: But why not? What's so bad making money with your creations which I presume you loved making? And what's so bad about the masses getting, enjoyment, inspiration, anything, from what you make/made?
But (and let me say it again) I have NO interest in making a living from music or seeking others approval.
Not sure how this has anything to do with my ealier statement.harryupbabble wrote: I am part of the masses. If I wanted to 'try' to be famous I wouldn't be playing in a Hardcore Punk Band. And my electronic music would be commercial sludge.harryupbabble wrote: I think they lie when they say "I don't want to be famous and I don't do it for the money". Maybe even Kurt Cobain lied. My point is that if you have commercial aspirations, and if your "sludge" are actually gems, then that "sludge" might have made a lot of people happy instead of possibly ending up only "tears in the rain". You say making yourself happy is enough but what's the big deal about making a lot of people happy too? Sure, some may say it's pandering but not if you don't change your music to suit a market... like the Sex Pistols.Robmobius wrote:

A lot of people say the Sex Pistols are total "sludge"... but not to a lot of people.
And why would you state that I seem trite and vacuous? Because I am honest and don't have that much problem with the idea of commercialism? Does this mean that David Bowie and the Beatles and the Sex Pistols and whoever are famous and made money from their creations are trite and vacuous?

What's the matter xoxos, you don't like independent thinkers and people who oppose other ideas? I thought you are into that. Being for pop music here sure seems like independent thinking. But not out there. Besides, KVR has a mute function. Use that. Or just avoid all my threads altogether, if you want. How hard can that be?xoxos wrote: and folks i'll give you a f**king dime if you stop talking to the toaster. it says right on it what it is.

To be comfortable in my own skin. Making music takes me partially out of the awkwardness. A lot of people would love to be Kanye because of his success; I'd like to be him for his ability never to be embarrassed.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

If you want to make other people happy with your music that's fine. Who's stopping you? Not me...harryupbabble wrote: My point is that if you have commercial aspirations, and if your "sludge" are actually gems, then that "sludge" might have made a lot of people happy instead of possibly ending up only "tears in the rain".
But I have no interest in getting all happy people together to sing 'kum bah yaah'. The concept sickens me... I have no interest in making music that 'lasts forever' either.
Good for them, who gives a toss? I don't particularly like the Sex Pistols. And I'm not sure what they have to do with HC Punk at any rate. My own opinion doesn't matter either.harryupbabble wrote: A lot of people say the Sex Pistols are total "sludge"... but not to a lot of people.
I say you are a vacuous because you believe that everone else 'secretly' wants to be a famous musician with lots of cash. To me you clearly have a limited world view.harryupbabble wrote: And why would you state that I seem trite and vacuous? Well, even if I could, I don't really want to be Bob Geldoff or lately, Bono, because all that other "deep" stuff takes time. It's like Bruce Lee. He was so busy making movies that his skills as a true fighter is questionable. So yeah, to make music that I intend to make I would be happy if the common people are made happy by it. If the people who think they have a deep deep view of whatever it is that matters more, if they are not interested, then I can't do anything about that. You are suppose to deliver the message of a thick book like War and Peace into a couple of lyrics line. But in my case, the book wouldn't be anything like War and Peace... it would be more like Johhny Got His Gun, but first I have to reread it.
I'm just really interested in making "supposedly not deep" and not very high-brow music (and where's the kumbaya?), ones that makes me (one of the masses) feel good, and relates to as a speed scrabble player, like the lyrics lines:
Any minute you will feel
The chemistry
Vibrations in the brain
Can't ever be explained
And also, why do you continue to converse with someone that you think seem trite and vacuous? And why does xoxos even posted replies in not just one but more than a few of my threads? He's like "I despise you, you are all sheep, but hey check out the tunes I made." and "Capitalism is evil, but hey buy my plugins, I am starving". And then if I question these things, I am a "toaster".
