Exponential Audio: R2

Post

Silaris wrote:As a Focusrite audio interface owner, Exponential Audio's R2 was definitely a pleasant surprise for the monthly plugin collective promotion.

R2 was the only Exponential Audio reverb that I did not own and it was doubtful that I would have purchased it, due to the fact that I already have a R4 license available on my iLok.
Would you mind telling me a little about how both compare to one another? After using R2 for a little while, I'm definitely considering the R4 upgrade, but R2 is pretty awesome already and I have heaps of other verbs (Eos, ArtsAcoustic, LX480, NI Reverb Classics .etc) :)

Can you ever own enough reverbs? I love reverb!!!!

R4 is essentially R2 with the following additions:

- Input filter
- Extra Input, Early and Tail filter types (Band-pass, Notch)
- Early modulation control
- Tail modulation control
- Warp section
- Hall 2 algorithm
- Slight tweaked Plate, Chamber and Hall 1 algorithms
- Ability to use note values for pre-delay
- Expanded Chorus controls
- Additional Early Reflection patterns
- Expanded Tail controls
- Gate Cut control

Overall, I will probably use R2 just as often as R4, as some of the extra features are not critical for my use of reverb.

Considering that R4 contains all of the R2 features and presets, there is really not a reason to purchase R2, if R4 has already been purchased. However, the other scenario may or may not be true, depending on the user.

Then you'll surely have FabFilter Pro-R and Zynaptiq Adaptiverb.

I purchased R2 focusrite licence in marketplace from some nice guy.
Was planning to upgrade to R4 but now I changed my mind. Bad strategy Exponential audio...go ahead, remove it from my ilok account.

So if I'm not mistaken, R2 version 3.0.3 is the last one to support 32-bit?

So they've already sent out the $150 upgrade offers to R4. Anyone had
a 2nd hand license revoked? Seems like they could have done that
by now if they wanted.

The email says iLok registration should be done before the end of May, or even May 1.

Yeah it looks like the current version 3.0.4 is where they dropped support for 32-bit and older systems. So you only have to go back to 3.0.3 for those.

I'm running 3.0.4 but grabbed 3.0.3 as well and confirmed it has 32-bit support.

True, I suppose they might wait til everyone's in if they really plan to do that.

Well, R4 seems pretty damn excellent, so far. $149 is fairly tempting
to someone like me, who has no real sense of monetary value.

Anyone gonna go for it?

Do I need a hardware iLok in order to run R2?

Between FabFilter Pro-R, ValhallaRoom, VintageVerb, Eventide Blackhole and Zynaptiq Adaptiverb, as well as EA R2, I don't see the need. And if you haven't got Pro-R or Adaptiverb, I would definitely get those first.

I'm not rich, just irresponsible...
