Yeah. No one has that issue. You've actually invented fake problems.James Melody wrote: If, for example, I was playing the piano and I found my hand going higher up the keys, I would not want to have to stop and "load" more octaves. That would interrupt the creative flow and by the time I'd loaded them, I would no longer be in the swing of the music. Even a millisecond's pause can interrupt the natural rhythm when you are composing music.
This 'keep an open mind' has not struck you as anything to heed, so I'm out.

That wouldn't be an issue with piano, all VSTi's cover 88 keys. The issue could arise if your controller isn't 88 key or with other instruments in the same VSTi, as the better libraries stick to the range of the individual instrument. IOW, a bassoon will only respond to notes in its native range, a flute, to its range and so on. So, obviously, you won't have free rein in that scenario. That's some, others like general MIDI instruments aren't restricted by range of said real instrument.James Melody wrote:If, for example, I was playing the piano and I found my hand going higher up the keys, I would not want to have to stop and "load" more octaves. From your given, sounds like you have a full sized controller.

Right ?!? For the record, if I were to troll, not saying that's something that I would do, this is how I would do it. This is, in fact, what I think that fun/good trolling looks like.Rappo Clappo wrote:Because he's a troll :sighs:
Now, of course, it's always possible that just because something looks like trolling doesn't mean that it is. Moreover, it's been my experience that a lot of KVR doesn't really know what the word means, but, this right here, is either classic trolling, or someone who needs to listen a bit, well really a lot, more.
I'll leave it up to the reader to think about how an expert troll would respond to this comment.

You are the troll. You act as this is your forum and you decide who crosses your bridge and is allowed entry. No one passes your muster and is eaten for their blatant transgression of your rules. You look at post count, and seeing a N00B, you figure it's a young, tender goat trying to cross and thus an easy meal. If you don't have anything meaningful to add to a conversation, why post anything? Is it to increase your post count to make you feel bigger and meaner to everyone seeking entry?ghettosynth wrote:Right ?!? Perfect example of not understanding what trolling actually is. It's not a label for commentary that you dislike. It's a specific posting behavior intended to elicit response under a guise of sincerity.bustedfist wrote:You are the troll. Sometimes people are sincere and look like they're trolling. However, whether it bugs you or not, this thread has all the markings of classic trolling.
Incidentally, when I troll, it is always with a humorous intent. See such KVR classics as "The Wire" to get a sense of when I'm actually trolling and when I'm not.

Dear everyone:
Please stop. Either help the OP or don't, but take the arguments somewhere else. Thanks.

Before you say everyone, read through the thread to get the full picture, please.D.H. Miltz wrote:Dear everyone:

I do agree, this isn't the place, I'm just tired of all this "better than thou" nonsense based on experience and/or post count directed at N00Bs. Been there, received the same reaction when I first asked questions on a forum when I got started. I will not stand for, nor stand by, when I see others being treated the same.
Again, please read the whole thread or at least my previous responses. Thanks.

It wasn't an invitation to defend the arguing, nor an invitation to start a new one. Everyone stop. That's the request. Further requests will be less polite.

To the OP: It will all become clear when and if you try it.
If waiting X seconds for a large sample set to load into a sampler interferes with your personal musical workflow or concentration when you try doing it, don't do it (?), it's not mandatory. Otoh, there is a logical reason for that, because (unless you own some really great and arguably expensive hardware sampler or something) the sampler sounds will arguably sound much better, and be more flexible, and in the cases of emulating acoustic instruments, sound much more realistic, if you put the edit work in.
That subjective time cost, waiting for a 1.5 gb Kontakt string or bass program to load it's samples before you can play it, is not without a literal practical reason or real world benefit... or nobody would be doing it.
Asking questions on the Internet will never tell you how - you - will may ultimately feel about it all. The only way to find out is to use those things and see for yourself. If most of the sounds on your current hardware keyboard (what keyboard or synth are you using btw?) sound as good as or are as flexible as really good commercial sampler programs, I'd be surprised.
Having said all of the above, if you're happy with the sounds you have now on your synth and are happy with the music you make with them, use them and don't procrastinate too much about it.

@James, here's a link to the Cubase youtube channel. Watch some of the vids to give you a little more info as to what's possible in a DAW. Some features are different between them, but they all basically do the same thing.
I'll find a link or two of the orchestral setups I mentioned where you can load everything and access on the fly.
Check out this setup.
