"It is with heavy hearts that we notify everyone of the passing of our beloved father.
"We would appreciate privacy and time while we grieve the loss of our dad, grandad, friend and musical genius.
"We will update close friends and family when service arrangements have been made and will notify the public of an open memorial service, which all would be welcome.
"We are undeniably still in shock with his unexpected death and cannot begin to put into words the overwhelming sadness we are experiencing. He is missed tremendously. - Louise, Sam, Emily & Rori."

I really only became aware of Allen in recent years, thanks to my guitar player friend and coworker who had played a lot of his music for me. He'd seen him live many times and chatted with him on a number of occasions, so I sort of got to experience that vicariously. I now can appreciate his phenomenal talent, just as he leaves us. I hope he's still making music somewhere, jamming out on that great big synthaxe in the sky.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

a unique guitarist, maybe the most intelligent player yet, who could combine variety, elegance and emotion.

That's very sad news. I only became aware of him around a year ago - have been discovering amazing records ever since. R.i.p.

I saw Allan live twice in the '70s, once with Bruford in early '79 on the One of a Kind tour, and the first time was at the Music Machine in Camden Town in '78 where he played as a guest with Johnny Moped (a legendary punk band). At both gigs a great time was had by all.
Allan's fluid guitar style was unique and memorable. The first UK album is one of my all-time Prog faves and I still play JLP's Enigmatic Ocean quite regularly.
Another sad loss indeed. RIP

Damn, another music hero gone before I've even started on their catalogue.

His playing style blew me away when I first heard him in the 70s.
Saw him with Tony Williams Lifetime and maybe Soft Machine in a coffee shop sized club in the 70s. I later found his style of playing abrasive...but clearly he was a master of masters.
Sorry to hear he's gone.

....................Don`t blame me for 'The Roots', I just live here.
