Who are the Developer Gods?

There used to be an (annual?) feature in PC Gamer called "Game Gods" where they listed the most prominent game developers.

So in the audio plugin world, who is the "Developer Gods"

It got to be people like Steven Slate and Urs Heckmann I think.

Kind of intrigued how Slate has managed to build up such a well-renowned brand in just about a decade.

Gilgamesh was the last one, and never learned any dsp, then the flood came and swept them all.

Seriously, it's a bad choice as a word that refers to developers.

As stated in the OP, it is inspired by Game Gods, the feature that PC Gamer used to run.

I used to work in the game industry.

Those aren't gods, even if they have bigger egos than your average deity.

Talk about hostile thread audience :help:

It is a term that a magazine used for a feature seires, that must be veeeeery difficult to comprehend.

And you are way late discovering those guys aren't gods, that particular mag was published a long time ago, like 20 years.

I think you're taking my post a little more seriously than it was intended.

Also, I was in the gaming industry from about 1995 to 2013. I'm not sure who specifically was featured in that article but there were definitely some overrated designers who always got written about, and some people who really were sharp technically but were complete a-holes.

This was not intended as a joke thread. In case I would have opened it in Off Topics.

"Game Gods" is just a temp expression I used to try and illustrate what I meant by "Developer Gods".

The meaning seems to have gone everybodies head, or flown under their radar.

Some time ago, i read about some of Harvey Smith's background, who was involved in some of my all time favorite games (Deus Ex, System Shock, Dishonored), and, obviously, the way he got into game design was by working in quality testing, and by showing a bit of over enthusiasm, and basically not caring about his colleagues, and putting himself in sort of a spotlight role there. Ok, maybe that's how making career often works, but, the whole thing, coupled with voices from people who worked with him, and said it was often not easy to work with him, made me think that the guy is not the nicest person really. Good creative head anyway, i guess.

Seeing how the gaming world is dog-eat-dog I can understand that players are self consciouness.

I mean a studio can be going strong, but one dud title "not meeting sales expectations", and they get closed down.

So I expect anybody in that industry to look out for no. 1 = themself
