Making a sampler instrument from another sampler instruments samples

I recently purchased a sample pack that included Abelton Live sampler instrument racks. I do not own Live, but I still want to use the sampler instruments. So I had a thought: why not just use the included samples for the rack instruments and make my own? I have Logic and Kontakt, but I'm not sure how to do this. I have made sample instruments using EXS24, but that has only been for drum sounds, so I'm not sure if the same principles would work for a multi-sampled synth instrument. I'm also wondering if by using Kontakt, I would be able to get "more" out of the instrument than with just using EXS24.

Caveat: In general, the sound designer's EULA will expressly forbid the use of the samples to create another sample library / sampler instruments.

For example, Native Instruments' EULA states:

The usage of this Product (in particular samples, instruments and presets) for the creation of a sound library or as a sound library for any kind of synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument is strictly prohibited. Individual samples, sound sets or audio loops may not be distributed (commercially or otherwise) standalone. Furthermore these samples, sound sets or audio may not be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound libraries or sound effects.

So I would check with the library's developer and get their written permission. If all is OK, you should be able to build instruments in Kontakt. You might consider HollowSun's Shell too

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about personal use, for instruments that they own.

The problem with "converting" an Ableton Live rack instrument to another format is that you'll loose the parameters (audio & MIDI effects) inside the racks. It won't sound the same at all. You could use a software like Chicken Systems Translator (150$) and try to translate the Ableton Live racks to Kontakt, but I highly doubt you'll get much use of the resulted Kontakt instruments. That is, if it works at all (Translator works better with simple parameters translation, it's never a fully translated patche/instrument that you get).

That being said, you can always drag and drop the plain wav (or aiff) samples in Kontakt and use BigCat script for simple parameters to tweak on Kontakt GUI. With Kontakt automapping it can be done fairly quickly.
