It depends on if propellerhead continue to develop the platform/sdk.chk071 wrote:I'd be very surprised if we'd still see any RE's in 2 or 3 years. Maybe a few from the RE-exclusive developers. Apart from that, i can't really see it. And i'm pretty sure PH were aware of that.
On one hand RE critics say that no/few VST developers have adopted the format, and the majority of REs were developed by indie/RE exclusive developers. On the other hand, if this is true, your reasoning about the RE market falls short because the majoity of the developers today are RE exclusive anyway.

Now, if you mean a waste of big dev's time who tried porting their wares to RE, then YMMV. Chris @ Audio Damage didn't care for it at all, and Urs @ U-He didn't make enough to warrant a commitment. There were plenty of others who felt the same. But Rob Papen did, as did Synapse Audio and Softube, as well as a literal ton of indie-devs (Blamsoft is an indie-dev that comes to mind).
Anyway, this is all moot now. Everybody gets everything they wanted now!

I'm not really interested in another wavetable or analog RE synth.EnochLight wrote:...There's some genuinely good stuff in there, too.Ableguy1 wrote:I'd agree the whole "Rack Extensions" was a waste of literally everyone's time...
The REs I find the most interesting are the ones that really get the rack format and aren't just another synth or FX. Things like:
https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/ ... fo-editor/
https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/korde-sequencer/
https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/cv-mutant/
https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/synchronous/
Those combined with the new R9 player devices give a whole new dimension to existing VSTs as well as the built-in devices.
I think both can co-exist provided the RE developers understand the strengths of a native rack device.
Feel free to call me Brian.

This is highly unlikely...fedexnman wrote:Maybe Reasons Rack will be removed one day too , like the Headphone Jack in the newer iPhone ? Maybe they'll port all there stuff to VST ?

I watched the 9.5 video looks like Racks are here to stay which makes sense .... The VST thingy looks more like a Racks VST wrapper , looks well thought out .MelissaZher wrote:This is highly unlikely...fedexnman wrote:Maybe Reasons Rack will be removed one day too , like the Headphone Jack in the newer iPhone ? To be clear, although it may look like a wrapper, it's not. It's an actual implementation of VST. It's just handled the "Reason way" (i.e., interfaced into the rack via a rack device).fedexnman wrote:.... The VST thingy looks more like a Racks VST wrapper , looks well thought out .

KFish needs to answer a simple question. What is an outdated sound?

The way these folks talk about devs who left RE because it didn't work for them is funny. Simple question. Have every dev that made VST found success in selling their products to such a large market?EnochLight wrote:Ableguy1 wrote:I'd agree the whole "Rack Extensions" was a waste of literally everyone's time...Except for the part where it wasn't. In the 5 years since they were added to Reason, users of Reason got to expand their rack with devices that fit perfectly within the rack ecosystem. There's some genuinely good stuff in there, too. I mean, if you've been only living in VST-land then this wouldn't mean anything to you, but for many Reasoners, I don't think they can imagine a rack without RE's. Certainly not a waste of everyone's time.

They certainly havent been a waste of my time. And from the sound of the new Blog post by Props CEO the other day and the brand new RE Releases by Rob Papen and Reveal Sound LTD, the format doesn't appear to be going anywhere.incubus wrote:And also, I do not think RE's were a "waste" of everyones time
