Rewire Stereo ?

What do you do if you want to mix Reason sessions in Nuendo via rewire ? Most instruments in reason have stereo samples..

hence one needs stereo rewire outputs.

But reason seems to only have one ? Which means i have LR two mono channels and link em in Muendo to get a stereo pair, but setting Eq, sends and inserts end up being a pain...

Bump!
I need help on this one.. how do you guyz rewire to mix multi rewire channels within another host ???

Post

I think (correct me when wrong) that the idea of "ReWire"ing is that you just add a stereo mix from another app into your main mixer host. And Reason is quite capable of doing EQ, FX etc on its own so imho a single stereo output signal should be sufficient.

Maybe a next version of ReWire features more buses? Or bounce/render your individual Reason tracks to a normal audio track in your host, then you can apply all you want over there.

In Logic (and probably Nuendo, too) you'd do it this way:

Rewire L(or 1,3,5,...) and Rewire R(or 2,4,6,...)
via (invisible) stereo Bus
into stereo Aux object.
Use stereo insert effects on the Aux channel.

Do this for up to 64 Rewire channels into 32 stereo channels.

You have the hardware interface in reason with 64 output channels.
I don´t know if nuendo supports rewire totally.
but if it should be no problem to connect each reason device to one or two or more (via spider) outputs and have them stereo in nuendo.
If you activate rewire in your host it shows up the possible channels and you only have to connect the devices in reason to these channels.

Follow the advice given above. If you have effects on the mixer sends that you want to use, create multiple mixers and use spiders for the sends and returns from the effects, then send each mixer's outputs to a pair of ReWire channels.

I can connect each device to one of the outputs in the Reason hardware interface...

the problem is there is no way of say, making outputs 3 and 4 a stereo pair, like what 1 and 2 are, by default.

I need stereo outs to most devices within reason.

In Nuendo all, but 1 and 2, show up as mono channels, so a stereo Piano off NN19 comes to channel 3 and 4 of the rewire interface. In nuendo i have to pan these hard L R. And link them. But linking them only links solo, mute and faders. I need to insert 2 eq's now, send two sends etc... making the whole task very tedious.... the only viable option seems to be to bounce as audio and get it... but i want the flexibility to change sounds...

Funny that stero ganging of corresponding outputs via rewire does not exist... does no one actually mix extensively outside reason ?

I understand your problem and am frustrated about this too... Maybe reason 3.0 will work this out.

so thats the way it is... this sux! :(

say you want a stereo out from a malstrom... just route the L/R outs into the hardware interface outs (say channels 3/4) and activate those channels in nuendo. Then group the two channels in nuendo and you have a stereo channel. no?

yes u are right... but for that i make as many group channels as devices in Reason. That is how i was going about it. Not very ideal in the work flow, but the best option so far.

yep, sidhu you´re right I understand what you mean, now the only way is to send them to a bus and insert the FX there, and this is nót a good solution, just a workaround.
But I think at the moment the only way. :(

btw this isn't a Reason problem, its cubase/nuendo. Tracktion can treat all Reason outputs as stereo. Then you don't have to use fancy bussing etc. to add inserts.

kidding me ??!!!!

man this shouldve caused an uproar on the Nuendo forums... I liked trackition (tried the Demo) but found it lacking in a lot of what i need... looking forward to v2

i think its a reason problem myself - because the outputs from live (i think) are stero pairs in cubase - with reason they are not

go figure

anyway monos Ok to work with - send the mono tracks hard panned left and right to stereo groups and youve got stereo :D

make yourself a default song with this already done and then load it up everytime you need to use reason - or everytime you start a new song - always have them there ( but with can hide selected) - that means you can unhide them if you need reason - otherwise you wont even know theyre there :D

why is that such a problem ??
