I think that's a bit like asking ... If I own samples of a Roland TR-909, does that make all other Drum Machine Samples redundant?

If you like the sound and functionality of Ethera, then, no, it's not redundant.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
