And here I had you pegged as the Conservatory trained type. 8) :D

Oops, you must have read past messages. Actually it was for a friend but I thought if I said that people wouldn't bother. It's ok I tabbed it for him last night. It didn't take that long but I couldn't be bothered.
Seriously though, you are probably wanting the notes for that lead guitar part, correct? The basic chords were pretty simple changes...kind of a B minor, A, G thing.
The lead part is easy. The whole song is pretty simple.
Long shot here, but I will dig through some stuff I have stashed about. Loved the band. Always liked this tune as well...
Yeh I just re-discovered them
Are We Ourselves?

Lost feelings return
So maybe I can learn
To stop this world of a lie
This time around

Are we, are we ourselves?
Are we, are we ourselves?

Because seen through these eyes
We lead a double life
No one will know
So check it out steppin' out here I go

Are we, are we ourselves?
Are we, are we ourselves?

Well, lost spirits return
So maybe I can learn
To stop this world of a lie
To this earth we are bound I ask you

Are we, are we ourselves?
Are we, are we ourselves?

*sigh* Yes indeed...we all have a past...
great song! no comment. :D

Ahh, I love The Fixx...Jamie West-Oram's one of my fave guitarists from that time period, along with Robbie Blunt (Robert Plant's former guitarist for his solo stuff back then)...I've always been a sucker for that big, ringy compressed Strat sound. :)

While I actually used to play "Saved By Zero" back in several cover bands back then...I was playing synths and fretless bass (not at the same time, of course...in different bands :D) back then, so I'm afraid I don't actually know the guitar parts offhand, sorry. :(
(we also used to do "Red Skies At Night", "Stand Or Fall", "One Thing Leads to Another", "Deeper and Deeper"...I loved playing the keyboards on those. Rupert Greenall was a brilliant synthesist waaay ahead of his time IMHO....subtle, but perfect sound textures :) )

Post

Has anyone asked why the best synth AND best guitar music seemed to come from the 80s?

I mean i like a lot of current music but when I listen back to like stuff from the 80s they did so much more with so much less than what we have today but the songs were solid.

As it happens I just got done doing a cover of Sign of Fire by the Fixx for a Fixx tribute CD and have the sheet music for the Phantoms album plus the singles from the earlier two albums, which includes Saved by Zero.

Bm
Verse
A Em Bm
A Em Bm

Chorus
Bm G
Bm G

Here's the gist of the chords, if you'd like more details or specifics let me know.

I realize you wanted guitar tab, the book I'm looking at has standard notation rather than guitar tab, but still might be somewhat useful.

Less is more? Sounds like a Fixx title too btw.

Back then a solid synth costed between $4000 and $20000. So once you bought it (after many sleepless nights thinking about it) you were gonna spend years exploring it trying to get everything out of it. I spend 2 years saving up for a Polysix back in '85 and spend 3 years tweaking to get every possible sound out of it.

Nowadays you purchase a softsynth for $200 that sounds even better. If it doesn't deliver within a day or two..... you just pick up another one.
That AND the fact there was new ground to cover gave many musicians a lot of inspiration. Drummachines + synths and sequencers gave birth to new music.
Not a good thing always because who ever sold those instruments to MODERN TALKING?! :x

My favorite Fixx cover to play was the non-single: Lost Planes (from Shuttered Room, i think). People seemed to dig it even though no one but Fixx fans actually knew it. :o Dynamic range... remember when music had some?

Hello All,

A friend of mine is trying to find a book that has Bass guitar tab music for The Fixx. Is there a published book out there?

Secondly, I noticed a lot of Fixx fans out there I was wondering if any of you knew that they are still touring the US. They have a website that has tour information at www.thefixx.com (http://www.thefixx.com).

Thanks for any help you can give me regarding the bass tab music,

Wow - also surprised at the Fixx fans on here!

I got into them around 82, when they toured supporting A Flock Of Seagulls and just blew them offstage. Cy Curnin is a brilliant vocalist, and as a band they were tight as F**k.

Fav song is probably 'Cameras In Paris'.

Great band.

Heard a rumour at one time that Cy was making hats. :o :?

Hello All,

Yes, the Fixx are still around. They are a great band to see live. The have a new album out called Want That Life which is excellent! They are also selling a CD at the concerts which is a hybrid between a studio album and a live album. It is a great album they play all the "standards."

Yes, the band did take a hiatus for about 4 years and you are correct Cy was making hats. The band has a new bass guitarists and they absolutely jam!

Gary Tibbs is the Bassists name. He used to be with a band called The Vibrators a pre Clash band. He also played on Roxy Music's albums Manifesto and Flesh and Blood. I think he may have also played with Adam Ant.

Anyway, glad to see you guys remember the band. They are alive and kicking.

Bloody 'ell. Gary Tibbs still doin the rounds then? He was an excellent bassist - listen to his work on Roxy's Avalon, great style and a distinctive sound. After the vibrators he joined Hazel O'Conners Breaking Glass band, and appeared in the film. And yes, he did indeed play with Adam and The Ants, he joined just after Dog Eat Dog, when Kevin 'nutter' Mooney took a hiatus.

Sorry - musical anorak mode kicking in there :-)

Obviously I now need to hear some new Fixx works.

Hello Chris,

Yes, Gary is great! They have a song from their Elemental Album called "Fatal Shore" which they pumped up the bass line on their "Stage One" album. The song ROCKS! The Stage One album is only available at the concerts( if you really want one I could get you one.

As you can see I love the Fixx and love talking about them. I have met the band members 3 or 4 times and they are really nice people.

Anyway, I found this website by Googling so what is this website about?

you see, people used to have lots of expensive hardware to make music, fx units, like delays, reverbs, etc...., and of course synths, drummachines,

well, these are being replaced with software equivalents, so now you can make music with your computer, this is what this forum is about...

btw fixxation,

I'm a huge fixx fan as well, but really, elemental and want that life sound so lame and tame and lifeless to me, I heard some live versions of some of the songs on these albums and they sound a million times better, like they had so much more energy and emotion to them,
I wonder why they haven't been able to capture this magic on their latest albums ???
what a shame...

Er, yeah, wouldn't mind that at all please? In return, I have a video that I have now put to VCD of the Fixx on The Tube circa 1985, doing 'Running' and 'One Thing Leads To Another'. Great clips. Email me!
