Covered beyond recognition

Spawned from another thread, here's a little story that doesn't really belong there.

So I had this CD for years with various songs by Aretha Franklin. I never pay attention to lyrics, so there was this one track on the CD that had gone unnoticed like forever: a simple I-IV two-chord jam. Thought nothing special about it.

Then one day I went through my whole CD collection to rip tracks for my MP3 player. Forced to read the leaflet carefully I noticed a certain song title: Eleanor Rigby. I then put it on out of curiousity, and finally the lyrics sank into me:

Eleanor Rigby, Eleanor Rigby
Father MacKenzy, Father MacKenzy

All those lonely people
Where do they all come from

So there's this rendition of a classic Beatles song going unnoticed in my collection for decades. Performed like they only had the lyrics and never ever heard the original. Covered beyond recognition...
