Nope. Never considered Reason seriously and this doesn't change it. I may have back in the early days of 1.0 / 2.0 but now it's way too late. Also the "reason is so flexbile" thing is not all that relevant to me any more as I use Reaktor, FL Studio and Reaper.. all of which has seriously powerful routing capabilities of both audio and modulation sources.

Too little way too late in my opinion.

Glad for all the Reason users though.

The poll would give a more accurate understanding of who's not interested, if you separated these choices.

Thanks.
Noted, and changed. Unfortunately - it reset everyone's vote! :x :x :x Hopefully people will chime in again and cast their vote (again).
No big deal, only 6 votes were cast.
I left to try out Logic X, after a series of successive meager updates made me skip multiple Reason versions. Not sure if I felt that Propellerhead was trying to take advantage of the existing user base, but really? - 129 for a new browser and a new skin on the transport controls? Come on, guys! Really?

I always recommended Reason to anyone before, but now, if they own a mac, my first choice to them is Logic X. 169$ for what you get is insane. (It's 199, but you can often get 100$ gift cards at 20% off and use them to buy Logic). And you get Alchemy as well - and that was a free update. I started out with Windows, so I didn't have the option of using Logic. Don't regret the Reason purchase, though. It's a cool visual virtual studio.

VST support is great, but I'll wait until at least version 10 to upgrade. It needs way more VST features, although the way they have implemented the VST so far, appears elegant. Strange word to use, I suppose, but Reason is very visual in a good way, that is conducive to creating.

The mixer seems out of place. It's retro analogue cool, but they need drag and drop inserts, and hide/show channels and folders. Projects can just get stupid big. I'm bouncing out to Logic half the time when I use Reason.

Not sure if I "left", as I am 50-50 with the 2 DAWs, so I haven't voted yet.
Don't forget, the Full version of Alchemy comes in Mainstage as well. That's one hell.if a value for one beast of a synth ($29 for Mainstage). Not to mention it includes their other synths too.

Towards the OP..Reason has been main primary for a while and will remain so. I'll have fewer reasons to leave it when 9.5 drops.

I stopped upgrading at Reason 7. I won't be upgrading again until Reason supports high-PPI displays.

Im now on logic pro X, switched about 2 years ago. Realised that alot of the value in reason for me was the fact that 'i know it inside and out, rather than it being uniquely fast/user friendly. Im very curious about how it would feel to be back in reason so I'll probably upgrade pretty soon (R7), but I'm not counting on it to become my main daw again. Some of the workflows, such as how I used to set up my beats makes me wonder how much faster/more inspired I am in reason vs logic. I will be watching closely when R10 is announced/released.

In't Reason a rap music DAW?

Post

i will not be returning to reason as my 'main daw'. i will however keep it as a rewire option for which it is perfectly suited for me. i last upgraded version 5 and since that time am so deep in other daws i just cannot see the need to bother with it so much anymore. if they had done this vst thing a few years ago, AND if they had totally redone the stuck window size interface which is horrible, then i would have seriously thought about getting back into it. my set up used to be reason and acid pro... halcyon days : )

I just got Reason 9 few days ago, but not because of the whole VST thing (I actually sold/am selling my plugins atm) - I just like the general idea behind it. Jumped there from Renoise, after episodes with Live and Studio One (and some really ancient versions of Reason, half a life ago), and after quick recon of the interface and how it works I just love it. I feel I have everything I need in the box, though I might get ABL3 rack extension for proper 303 emulation

Post

Used Reason extensively in the past but for some reason I just hate the rack system, just always seems like one congested mess. I usually have 40+ tracks to work with and when I see all those wires I just rage quit from the disorganized chaos. Too much work trying to remain organized with Reason and their confusing cluster mess with their racks. Not only that but the Piano Roll is horrid and font is so tiny and unadjustable, honestly the only reason I continue to use FL Studio over all these DAW's is because of the Piano Roll itself.

What I do like about Reason however are their samplers, and their mixer is alright but everything else is bleh..

I love Reason, so much I want to marry it and make lots of little Reasonettes.
Now they can have little VST shoes to go with their RE hand-me-downs.

Life's good...

I have a copy of 2.5 laying around. Count me as someone who will upgrade to 9 or 10 etc. when they allow Reason to host VST in ReWire slave mode. I didn't switch to Bitwig from Live mostly because Bitwig doesn't do ReWire at all. Propellerheads IMO could rule the roost for a lot of us if they updated ReWire to simply always allow VST in both DAWs, especially their own.

Rewire could have solved a simple problem, you start a song in sequencer style DAW A (Reason, FL, ReNoise, Live, Bitwig etc.) and want to use some advanced audio or mixing capabilities of an old school DAW like Logic, Pro Tools, DP, Sonar, Cubase etc. What has happened is 90% of the time a DAW only offers itself as a Master, or denies the ability to host VST as a slave. So the solution, printing to audio all tracks with VST completely destroys the purpose of ReWire in the first place, how is it better than simply dragging files end to end into the Master DAW?? Fix this with your own DAW, and offer a Rewire 2 solution that fixes it accross the board and Propellerheads I guarantee drive sales of Reason up.

Nope .

I like Reason but this is not a reason to abandon my setup (or push it one step under a new DAW!).

I voted "I might return/try ...etc" because I might return or consider "Essential" as my 5th DAW (together with Live intro) if they add "External/hardware Device/instrument" to the available devices (so that I can use blofeld mainly).

It is not easy to consider the full version really because I already have my first (and second and third ..etc) DAWs. What can Reason add to my setup?! And why I should spend that much money! I don't think so. Maybe this would be a no-brainer if I already have a full version of Reason, but to buy a new license (or even a 2nd hand one), I don't think so :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

The Beastie Boys, Eminem, and apart from that a whole bunch of totally unknown rappers that Propellerhead wheel out on promo videos so the fans can say "oooh, but Johnny McRapface 5000 uses Reason too" :dog:

I did say Nope , but I'd be interested in Reason Essentials if it doesn't get to restrictive with Track counts and VST counts etc etc ... To be honest I'd be fine if they made it totally barebones but with VST support.
