Does (most) music sound better when you're drunk? Or is it 'cos it's the end of the working week?

Watcha,
It's fair to say that I've had a few damn delicious beers (Green Devil IPA, Lemon Dream and Old Dalby Ale: I can recommend the first two...).
But does booze make music sound great, or at least better than it normally might?
I refer to Exhibit A: The Moonlandingz and their album Interplanetary Class Classics.
I wasn't convinced by it on Tuesday. Thought it was a bit pretentious.
But this is their song wot I'm currently listening to, and it's definitely got my old twitching going again:
There's other tunes I know which I reckon sound a great deal better with the warm embrace of booze.
Is this the findings of your research too?
Cheers.

I don't drink. Alcohol depresses the brain and is dehydrating.
Per the former, of course it makes you less critical. That's why it's 'a social lubricant'.

True, and to be fair you'll also save a nice bit of money by avoiding the booze.
Though (for me) sometimes at the end of the week it's nice for me to just lose my faculties for a couple of hours.
I suspect given the dubious quality of my OP that this may be a rather short-lived thread
Anyway, now I'm sobering up once more and the melancholy is kicking in, so time for a bit of the bloomin marvellous Tindersticks:

Listening to YOUR OWN music while a bit drunk is the best shit control test. If it still sounds good then it's good.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Were you listening to music at the TGIF party?
As far as I'm concerned, I have never been drunk in all my life, so I can't tell.

Does music sound better being drunk or high?
Is there a difference there, or the same?

That explains a lot.fluffy_little_something wrote:As far as I'm concerned, I have never been drunk in all my life
But are you a teetotaler, or can you enjoy a glass of wine or a light beer?

Dunno, it's been a while since i was drunk (actually years). I tend to prefer to get a little "high" on alcohol, instead of getting drunk, i prefer that by far.
I don't think it beats listening to music on drugs though. I didn't do drugs for more than 10 years now, but, it was always great (listening to music on them, that is). Not that i miss it or something.
Glad i quit those.
That said, i might just open a bottle of cooled Krombacher now. Prosit.

Embarrassing to say I usually can hear things when Drunk in songs that I can't always make out Sober ex. Song lyrics ... little nuances of cymbal , snares , guitar string squeaks etc etc ... kinda wierd ... I'm high strung so alcohol chills me out.

Neither. I don't remember the last time I drank tea, must have been when I was a teenager, mom's tea. The same applies to alcohol, last drop a little later in the early 80's, and even that was only a "symbolic social sip" of wine at a meeting I got away from as fast as I couldNumanoid wrote:That explains a lot.fluffy_little_something wrote:As far as I'm concerned, I have never been drunk in all my life

I totally get what you mean. Whenever i smoked weed or pot, i at least thought i could sense every little nuance of the music i was listening to. Could really be like you say, that when you're relaxed, you just sense everything a little more. I totally cannot make music after 2 beers though. Actually, it pretty much pisses me off doing so. I only do music when i'm sober.fedexnman wrote:Embarrassing to say I usually can hear things when Drunk in songs that I can't always make out Sober ex. I did a bit of tokin' in the mid-90's, but I didn't catch on, just too intense for my liking.
And I have loved electronic music from day one, so no need for extra stimuli.
I remember getting goosebumps when I first heard Das Boot at the local disco in '91, and at that time I didn't even drink
