Wow! Thank you Taron for such effort! It runs smooth so far on my 64bit win & Ableton Live. I think I'll participate this time as well. Although limited I think this VST will be less challenging than my previous choice :hihi:

You're very welcome!
Have you guys checked out the original emu2413, yet? It's quite inspiring, I find...hahaha:

Funny stuff. Though, I think, they may have run even some samples through the volume channels...I think. Except possibly Thunder Blade, which seems as crude as it gets! :) (adorable)

Check out Yuzo Koshiro. My teacher told me that his creations are the origin of many house and techno sub-genres.

SMH The SEGA Megadrive didn't use the YM2413. it used the YM2612. a 4 operator FM Synth.
And iirc the Megadrive just uses something to do with its DAC to produce samples. it was something that was documented at least well enough for most people to use it.
It's very tasty, I swear!

Read the info! This should be fairly authentic?! ...I'm just confused why Yamaha rather then Emu? I'm a little confused, but those times might've been a little foggy about who worked with whom?!

Hi Taron -- I'm trying to open the synth in ProTools on a Mac and it doesn't see the VST -- any ideas?
Thanks.

FIRST: Does the original version has the same issue for you?
Then...since it has no GUI, you need to have access to generic controls!

Beyond that:
No idea, sorry. It works beautifully with MuLab, loads up fine, performs...well...as it does, hehe. But, yeah, I have no other means to open it, because somehow I can't get garageband for El Capitan thus far. I should keep searching, I suppose.
If you have some other free host suggestions for the mac so I can check, I'm all ears! :help: :)

Uh, there's a listing of some here on KVR. Not sure, which one may come closest to reliably check a vst for other DAWs?! But I'll see that I try some.

I didn't try the original one, only the ones that are in the zip file you listed a few pages back. I normally use Logic but that needs an AU version so i thought ProTools might work. I had a trial version of MuLab from that OSC, but it's probably expired. Unfortunately, for the OSC I can only spend a limited amount of timing trying to figure things out, so I had hoped it would be easier! BTW, I'm amazed (and appreciative) that you were able to come up with all these versions!

MuLab (demo mode) doesn't expire, it will only keep some demo restrictions and if you go beyond them, it'll introduce some periodic noise. Considering the nature of this synth, the 4 track MuLab demo sounds like a perfect fit, hahahaha! But, yeah... with all of my heart I can always recommend spending the few bucks on the pro version of MuLab.

Anyway, I'm so happy I get to see so much appreciation from you all, that's awesome and massively motivating, too! :tu:

I haven't looked at AU, yet, but it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to do those, too. I just don't want to wreck my brains entirely before I get to figure out how to bring my complicated synth to compile on a mac. So much I still need to learn. :drunk:

I can tell you, though, I'm having quite some fun making a tune with this dreadfully sounding little heap of nostalgic joy. :ud: ...though, I feel like I'm betraying it with every effect I put on it, every tweak of the EQ. I'm trying to keep as much of the noisy aliasing alive as possible without making me drool in despair. But, yeah, I sure am making a song with it! :)

Here's my entry - all tracks more or less just single-shot recorded, because there's only a VST version of the plug-in available and had to fall back to an old version of Cubase.

https://soundcloud.com/toggleaudio/toggleaudio-koln

6 instances of vst2413 (5 x vst2413p, 1 x vst2413r)
1 x Maximizer
1 x Compressor
1 x C3 MultiBandCompressor
1 x Limiter

Of the last four OSC's three were not accessible for most Mac composers, since there were either no Audio Units or no Mac version at all. Maybe I'm just so late in the game that most decent and universally built free plug-ins have been exhausted :?

Anyways, it's still a lot of fun - thanks for keeping it up and running! If I have time to convert the plug-in to AU by the end of the month I'll make it available and make a proper entry too...

Well, it's kinda funny that our "official chat" is via "SLACK"...I just now joined and it seems fine! I'm not that big of a chatter, though...dislike the distraction, but I'll see that I check in every now and then!

Slack works perfect but only works if you register with email etc. You know the drill.

Some people like to have a guest login and that is what the riot.im bridge does.

So you join as a guest on riot.im and enter the One Synth Challenge 'room', your messages will be forwarded to the Slack #general channel. Messages in the slack channel are forwarded to the riot room.

There is of course no obligation whatsoever to join either. It's all just a bit of goofing around.

AH, neat. At least we all get to meet in one place, one way or the other. Nice! :tu:

Nice synth seems to work very well for certain genres with minimum eq processing and I'm not thinking about video games here...my song is totally different genre 90-95% complete will post next weekend.
