Ableton - Max or not?

Hi, new to KVR!
I'm thinking about upgrading my Ableton Lite to standard or suite.
I dont care about the extra instruments in Suite (I have Zebra2 which is more than enough for me) - but I'm in doubt about MAX.
If you have experience with MAX, what would you miss the most, if you had to use Ableton without it?
Thanks

Miss the most? My intimate time restarting everything after crashes
I don't have any idea how it is today but a significant amount people experienced a lot of crashes with it. If I did ableton again, I go w/o.

For me the LFO tools are what I use M4L the most for. Being able to modulate any parameter with an external waveform just introduces so much more variation and movement to the sound of every Ableton device.

Love MAX, hate MAX! It does things that you can't do otherwise in Live. Every time that you choose to load it, however, it's slower than molasses to load that first time. It also sucks up memory and CPU. LFOs are great, however, MAX adds SO much overhead for such a basic feature. Reaper blows it away for the basic aspects of that feature with respect to CPU consumption, but can't even come close in terms of flexibility.
The rest of suite is WAY overpriced/overrated with just a few exceptions.

It takes so long to load on my system that I never use it. I have it and I don't miss it. If I didn't have it, I still wouldn't miss it.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Oh, and I reported the long load time to the M4L people once (in case they were not aware of it) and they told me that they were not Ableton Support.

Yes, it is less stable with M4L than without.pdxindy wrote:Live was more stable for me without M4L... one of the reasons I switched to Bitwig was the regular crashes when using M4L

Using Live daily with Max and I'm yet to experience a crash.pdxindy wrote:Live was more stable for me without M4L... one of the reasons I switched to Bitwig was the regular crashes when using M4L
I moved to an iMac form PC so maybe that's the reason?

I'm on Mac... but then it has been about 9 months since I have been using M4L... I have the latest Live installed, but I left Max uninstalled. Maybe stability has improved in the ensuing months... or we do different things.liquidsound wrote:Using Live daily with Max and I'm yet to experience a crash.pdxindy wrote:Live was more stable for me without M4L... one of the reasons I switched to Bitwig was the regular crashes when using M4L

Besides the stability, I found M4L bit heavy on resources.
It has started to feel like I've moved on from Live. I have Bitwig and Logic, both of which can handle MPE controllers (mostly)... Live not at all. Still have a soft spot for Live though.

Could be... I jumped from 8.41 on PC to 9.7 on the MAC a month ago and I love it even more.pdxindy wrote:I'm on Mac... but then it has been about 9 months since I have been using M4L... It turned out to be an Instrument rather than a DAW for me. It's just endless and with M4L it's just sick!
