What is this exactly? First we had a composer that let a 60-head orchestra be silent for 4:33 (or whatever time), now a sound eight hours of sleep is a concert?
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Yeah, it's pretty strange.BertKoor wrote:What is this exactly? First we had a composer that let a 60-head orchestra be silent for 4:33 (or whatever time), now a sound eight hours of sleep is a concert?
Rich has done this before I see. Max Richter also performed his 8hr Deutsche Grammophon release "Sleep" before a live seated audience.(Love the 8hr release)
I'm not at all sure there will be seating here in Philly for the shows! Fall asleep on the tile floor.haha

Your very welcome. Just passing on a good nights sleep I guess.Gucky wrote:Many thanks for the tip!
Robert Rich was many years ago one of my idols.
He is still making great music!
Greetings
Ronald aka Gucky
I saw Rich a few times. Last time he performed a few tracks from the CD 'Soma'.(this was a number of yrs back)
Rich's music can get pretty dark.

(from site)Attendance is limited to 100 quietly prone attendees with proper sleeping apparatus.
So ppl are going to be paying $32 or $40 for this. I don't even go to ambient concerts that last a couple hrs because there is nothing to look at. You can't exactly understand what the performers are doing even if you could get a good view.
I plan to record the show for later listening as well as listen through the night at home.
Wonder if this will attract heroin junkies and pain pill poppers?

The concert advert talks about how the music is somehow absorbed into your subconscious while in a twilight sleep.(my words) But for me, that just doesn't happen. I listen to 'Stars end' each and every Sat. night from 1:00am to 6:00. The last few hrs I miss because i'm sleeping.(I record the show and listen later) Sometimes I wake up and hear what's playing. If it's a little too attention grabbing for sleep, i'll turn the radio off.
Creating/performing an 8hr live concert based on this, to me, is absurd.

I'm not sure what to do with these links - it keeps trying to download something. How do I record it?

Once you download and install the free net radio player/recorder you will see it's search window. Type WXPN and it will show in the list. Double click it in that list and the station will play. To record, just hit the record button. You can change the recordings directory location in the 'settings'.aMUSEd wrote:I'm not sure what to do with these links - it keeps trying to download something. How do I record it?
After it is installed, and at show time beginning, copy and paste this into Start/Run and hit ok. This will open the player in record mode and it will record WXPN for 8 hrs automatically and turn itself off.
"C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\RadioSure\RadioSure.exe" /source= "http://wxpnsc.streamguys.com/listen.pls" /record /duration=480
EDIT - OOPS!!! Sorry, this is my path to the radiosure.exe.
For you, go to the radio sure directory folder and note the path to the radiosure.exe then just substitute that path over my path above.

Maybe there is a net radio player as part of a music player in your Mac?
If so, it will allow you to load that WXPN link from page one in this thread.
All net radio players will have an internal station directory. Search WXPN, it should come up.

It's OK I found a Mac app called Radio that records net radio - only thing is it doesn't seem to have any ability to schedule a recording in advance (also hope there's no talk/commercials over this)

Great! Glad to hear you have one.aMUSEd wrote:It's OK I found a Mac app called Radio that records net radio - only thing is it doesn't seem to have any ability to schedule a recording in advance (also hope there's no talk/commercials over this)
No commercials. Only the program host quietly breaking in for station ID every hr. It's the law in the USA.
You can still try to run that command line I wrote above to execute the exe of the Mac player. It may work, and run the allotted time and shut down.

Windows has a program called 'Task Scheduler'. It can be programmed to start and stop any program. Maybe Mac has something?
