I wants. gimme.
An idiot on Set Theory:

So we are looking at a giant kalimba, 2 string "cello" with a wooden spinning bridge, some springs, an ebow all fed through an exposed spring reverb? I think I feel a project coming on. The main difference is that my woodworking skills are less refined than the maker of that, so mine will also look scary.

Nice
I'm unlikely to build anything like this, but now I'm contemplating getting a spring reverb for various kinds of abuse...

e-bow; electromagnetic device sorta wired like a pickup in reverse, designed to cause guitar strings to vibrate 'indefinitely'. the toggle changes the electromagnetic feedback/excitation thing that it does.chaosWyrM wrote:what is that black thing with the blue light on it hes using at 220...and what is that toggle switch on the top for?

I would withhold my pre-order until you see whether or not I can even build itchaosWyrM wrote:how much you want for one?Stupid American Pig wrote:So we are looking at a giant kalimba, 2 string "cello" with a wooden spinning bridge, some springs, an ebow all fed through an exposed spring reverb? well thats discouraging. it makes me feel like even if you do make one...youll keep it and not make another one.
but still...you should totally make one.

It actually sounds like a lot of fun. If I did build one, though I would want to use nice hardwoods like walnut and mahogany contrasted with some maple. I dont know how well that would bode for sound quality but it would certainly last longer and cost a lot more than say, plywood... I built a bunk bed from solid walnut because I was not convinced of the build quality of store bought bunk beds. It cost me about 1200 bucks for the wood in what was a pretty minimalist design. That said it is now 2 years old and there has been no degradation in structural rigidity after kids jumping and playing on it...chaosWyrM wrote:Stupid American Pig wrote:I would withhold my pre-order until you see whether or not I can even build itchaosWyrM wrote:how much you want for one?Stupid American Pig wrote:So we are looking at a giant kalimba, 2 string "cello" with a wooden spinning bridge, some springs, an ebow all fed through an exposed spring reverb? Betcha a whole quarter we'll see a Soniccouture sample library based on this eventually. This kind of thing seems right up their alley.
