To me that soundtrack and the instruments used sound rather cheap and mediocre, there is nothing special to them, unlike with the Vangelis sound (and I'm anything but a Vangelis fan, mind you).

Reminds me of Hybrid 3, where the FX delay times get messed up when one changes the sampling rate of the DAWadamgrossmanLG wrote:I turned on the oversampling for the plugin in Sonar (so I can use a 44.1 project) but still render and playback in 96khz, but when I turned oversampling on for the Repro-1, it appears the sequencer in the Repro-1 got double speed (with a bit of swing - maybe because its not 44.1 to 88.2 - if it was then it would be double precisely)... this is just my guess.
Is this a known issue or something I am doing wrong?
Thank You!

There's a Zebra preset that I think would work well for (at least some) of those drums. Factory -> 8 Perkers -> HS Drums of Mordor. Be sure to move the XY pads 1 and 2 to really dial in the sound.HunterKiller wrote:That's a top notch cover. The only thing that it's missing is the glorious kick of doom.
(Sorry, no turnkey preset for the giant pipe bang. Factory -> 0 Tenth Anniversary -> HS Sheet Metal Hangar is a great preset to start touching knobs on Comb1.)
Feel free to call me Brian.

I don't like the way that sounds. There is that hollow, cold, digitally synthetic touch to it...egbert101 wrote:A perfect example of a modern (or postmodern?) interpretation of eighties soundtracks is the theme from the TV series Stranger Things.

I don't hear that at all. It's an excellent soundtrack IMO. Sounds spot on for the vibe it's going for.fluffy_little_something wrote:I don't like the way that sounds. I agree, without even listening to it. LOL. Seriously, I asked Fluffy if there were any synths he liked and his answer was no. So you kind of have to take his response from whence it comes.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:I don't hear that at all. It's an excellent soundtrack IMO. Actually, I just went back and gave it a listen and I think it sounds really cool. Very modern sounding in a retro sort of way.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:I don't hear that at all. Before anyone kicks off, Stranger Things was done by these guys - https://survive.bandcamp.com - and they are very, very hardware analogue.

That is certainly not what I said. Show me where I said that. I don't delete any of my posts, so it must still be there...wagtunes wrote:I agree, without even listening to it. LOL. I do like synths, but not all of them, nor all the ways and genres they are used in.
I even like some modern-sounding soundtrack tunes, like the Nip Tuck song:

Yeah, you said it. And if I have to search through this entire forum, I'll find it. I don't recall the exact thread but we were discussing some synth that most people generally considered good and you, as usual, were making your usual comments about all the things you didn't like about it. So finally, after hearing you do nothing but complain about every synth ever discussed, I asked you point blank if there was any synth that you truly loved. And your answer was a point blank straight off the cuff no. I'm not making this up. It didn't surprise me. In fact, I kind of suspected it given how I can't remember you ever saying a positive thing about any synth we've ever discussed.fluffy_little_something wrote:That is certainly not what I said. So yeah, if you REALLY want me to go find it, I will. And then, after I do, you're going to need to admit to what you said.
Deal?

That is indeed what you had asked if I remember correctly, not if I liked synths. I do like some synths, but I don't truly love any synths, no.wagtunes wrote:Yeah, you said it. I like some synths, but I am no synth junkie, I am fully aware of their shortcomings.
Found it for you

Okay, then I'm not crazy. I do remember the conversation. So if you really don't "love" any synths, how can a person possibly expect you to comment on an all synth recording and like it?fluffy_little_something wrote:That is indeed what you had asked if I remember correctly, not if I liked synths. The point is, your response to that video doesn't surprise me. And I just wanted to point out to the person responding that they felt it did what it set out to do that he needed to understand where the response was coming from, a person who is, as you yourself said, is not a synth junkie.
And don't get me wrong. I don't think every synth ever made sounds great. There are quite a few I think sound like crap. But I'll be willing to be dollars to donuts that if I listed 50 different synths that I loved, there'd be maybe a half dozen at best that you even liked at all. And with that I think I'm being generous.
Which is why it still boggles my mind why you hang out here so much.
I don't hang out at hip hop forums. I don't hate hip hop, but don't love it enough to hang out at one. I don't hang out at jazz forums. I don't hate jazz. In fact, I've done a couple of jazz pieces. But I just don't love it enough to hang out at them.
You are here quite a bit and unlike most people here who apparently ARE synth junkies, that just boggles my mind. What do you find so fascinating about this place if, at best, you can take synths or leave them?
