If you're talking about factory libraries, then no. Factory library changed between versions.

There are small differences, a number of things were dropped from Kontakt 2. VSL .nkis were different, but the later FL includes a folder 'Legacy instruments' which are Mod Wheel crossfade deals. Choir was introduced somewhere in the life of K3 if I'm not mistaken. VSL has stated more than once they didn't make new samples for Kontakt any time recently.

Cakewalk supposedly has a VST3 API which can resolve this but no other vendors implement it.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

I'm guessing a new version is at least a year away. Pity.

My feeling much sooner as I believe Kontakt 6 was marked for release with Komplete 12, so it must have been near ready for release last year. My feeling that K12 will be the mother of all Kompletes. Perhaps K12 will be the anniversary issue which will also include ABsynth 2 and Massive 2. And the reason it will be soon is that everyone will buy this K12 and NI will make much money. K13 will then take a long time for release.Straight2Vinyl wrote:I'm guessing a new version is at least a year away. Pity.

Considering the date of release of K11 and K10 before it, I am not sure K12 is slated for 2017, as it seems to be on a roughly 18-month cycle.

So what is the recommended solution when, for example, moving to a new computer and installing the newest Kontakt? Do I install old libraries somehow? Do I copy the libraries to the new machine manually and wait till projects ask me to find samples and then direct them to the content?EvilDragon wrote:If you're talking about factory libraries, then no. You can copy the libraries over, yes. After that you would need to authorize them though.

Nothing
Well KONTAKT 5.6.8 actually - but no 6
The free 5.6 update provides KONTAKT 5 with an updated user interface. The update also brings improvements to stability and a number of important bug fixes. KONTAKT instrument developers now benefit from a number of new KSP features, allowing larger available screen space for user interfaces and improved instrument building workflow.
The 5.6 update also introduces Usage Data Tracking to KONTAKT 5 and KONTAKT 5 PLAYER. This will help us ensure quality and stability by allowing us to collect important data on how the software is used. This will always be done anonymously and can be disabled at any time.
The update adds a new user interface tool for KONTAKT instrument builders – a fully customizable XY Pad feature. It also provides some fixes requested by the community, as well as multiple stability improvements.
Version 5.6.6 brings a much-requested return to full key coloring on the virtual keyboard, making switch placements and sound and sample type positions clearer. It also fixes some rare but troublesome bugs.
The KONTAKT 5.6.8 update links the ‘Add/Authorize Library’ buttons for third-party libraries – such as those from Heavyocity and Spitfire Audio – to Native Access, simplifying installation and authorization. It also fixes some bugs and adds new features for instrument builders.

Are there any other "new features for instrument builders"? I don't want to bother installing Native Access (yet) and the update seems unavailable in other venues.ADDED New KSP built-in variable ($NI_CONTROL_PAR_IDX) returns the index of the element triggering a UI callback; applies to tables and the XY Pad

5.6.8 appears to only be available via Native Access so far.
I normally download everything directly from my account as it has always been the only consistent way to do it without issue. 5.6.6 is there, but the latest version requires it be done via NAccess only?
Guess they're drawing a line that some of us can't cross unless we move into a metropolis...
And before anyone asks, neither Access or Service Center has ever worked for downloading, updating or installing anything for me. Service Center has always worked for authorizing though. Dealing with Access was the final reason for me dumping KU11 though.

Doesn't anyone think this feature would be cool if NI implemented it?mumpcake wrote:This is what I was talking about:
