UPDATED 28/08/04 : my keyboard had a defect.
----------------------------------------------
I bought last week this Keystation 49e :
http://m-audio.com/index.php?do=product ... ontrollers
I have a problem with it...
I reach very easily the maximal velocity level...
So between i press "rather softly" and "very loudly" i got a 128 velocity.
I have to press the keys very soflty to have less...

Is it something well known in the entry level keyboards ?
Can that be a problem with my keyboard only ?

You must change the velocity of the keyboard. I don't have mine in front of me, but changes in such parameters is in the manual. I believe you can download the manual from their site.

I would love you're right....
Didn't find anything about that in the manual. :?

I'm writing this from memory, but try this:

Hit the MIDI/SELECT button, then the VELOCITY key (I think it's middle C), move your DATA ENTRY slider to something like 40 or 50, hit ENTER (the last key on the right), and finally the MIDI/SELECT key. let me know if that changes your velocity.

Thank you very much for your help....
I'll try that (cannot try now, i'm at work  ) ...
But are you sure we're talking about the same keyboard ?

There is no MIDI/SELECT button :?
Just an "advanced functions"...

I had one of those. Tried it for 1 minute, noticed the crap velocity response, packed it straight back in the box and sold it. It is a piece of shit.

Get one of these fatar keyboards:
http://www.studiologic.net/

They have the best keys, same as used in all the best hardware synths.

I have a "49e" It looks completely different to the picture posted. It does have a MIDI / Select button though. I think you guys are talking at cross purposes!

Cannot believe this is the not-modifiable behaviour of all the Keystation 49e !!!
I cannot believe they sell such a Shity keyboard... :-o

And i don't understand why this is not written on every web site that reviewed this keyboard... :x
Maybe that's why they put a volume slider so easily reachable...
They expect people to think that the volume can replace velocity !!!!

Sorry, I'm wrong. I have the M-Audio Radium. But somehow I think perhaps a similar procedure may hold true. Hope it all works out for you.

Hi, i don't know which software you are tried the keyboard with but i have the same keyboard and i'm using fruityloops. I can get various amounts of velocity in the program without a problem (not perfect but not as bad as you said) so i guess your problem is the software you're using. So it may be i a good idea to try with different software.

Good Luck.

maybe it has a defect.
i once buyed the exactly same (noname) keyboard which a friend of mine already owned. his had very good velocity resonsiveness, mine (the very same model) had the same problem you described. Getting a vel. level below 128 needed meditation and zen and whatsnot.

:-o
I'm glad I read this thread
I'm getting a new keyboard in the near future and was considering getting something from M-audio

I forgot to mention this, especially midiview is very small handy software to view midi messages from keyboard with this you can investigate the velocity curve of the keyboard.

OK important update for those who want to buy it.
I tested an other Keystation 49e at my reseler and it worked OK.
So my keyboard had a problem.
They returned it at M-Audio. I hope they will consider this as a real problem and i'll have a new one.

Thanks for suggestion and for help.
