My first music software purchase that really got me interested in PC music making was Acid Rock. That was a few years ago, and Sound Forge followed soon after. Back then, they were a match made in heaven. Playing around with loops in Acid was a blast. I bought every loop disc Sonic Foundry made but then eventually I found myself stuck in the 'loop dilemma'. There were limitations to working exclusively with loops, as I quickly learned. But then eureka! Along came VST 2.0. Now my head was spinning. And to top it off, VSTi's were shipping by the truckload. It was like xmas everyday. And so after trying several hosts that crept over time I settled with Orion and my beloved Acid was soon forgotten. That is, until the unveiling of Acid Pro. I was overjoyed. Yes, I could have my Acid back, but now as a VST! But then I was sorely disappointed when I discovered that Acid Pro did not support the .fxp format. This was really lacking when all of the other VST hosts did. It cut out a whole slew of VSTi's. Not only that, but it was a bit of a CPU hog. And so it was back to Orion, which saddened me because I like the Acid interface better; Everything in one window. Also, no enveloping feature, which I had grown so fond of. Orion is a nice host, but if Sony adds the .fxp format in Acid Pro 5.0 I'm there.

It already does support fxb/p format in version 4.

However you could always load your VSTi's via something like Chainer or EnergyXT and then you can load fxb's too as well as improve the flexibility you would have.

True. Another nice feature of Acid Pro is that it supports Rewire. But still, when you consider that other hosts support .fxp, or was it .fxb??? Anyway, there's no need for chaining for the most part. I really miss Acid though. I especially like the editing features like enveloping in real time directly on nice wave graphics. It was sweet.

I've done a bit of work using Orion rewired to Acid.
do my sequencing with vsti in Orion, and mucking about with the loops in Acid. Granted, not the greatest solution in the world, but at least it allowed me to get some use out of acid

Like I said - so does Acid.

The last I heard, Acid 5.0 was due to be released around xmas. I'm really curious to see what Sony will do with it.
