First question - is this possible?

If not, are there any small pad controllers (and cheap if possible) that I can use with the iRig Pro Duo, to trigger arps in Sampletank Pro?

I want to have this control outside the keyboard I am using. I really only need four pads, but I guess something with a lot would have to do haha!

I have a small MIDI merge box, So I was thinking (originally) to hook up my NanoPad to this along with the keyboard (on different channels of course) so I can play the instruments in ST, but control the drumm triggers via the NanoPad.

Anyhoo, thanks for reading, and please if someone has a different (probably better haha!!) solution post it!

Why not get a USB hub and connect both NP2 & iRig to that?

attach a midi to usb converter cable of some sort to the hub too...

or you could build yourself a usb to din midi host using a raspberry pi. works like a treat. or you can buy a Kenton host.

Something like the Roland UM ONE MkII USB MIDI Interface will convert USB midi to 5 pin din midi.

Only when one side is a usb host, not a usb midi controller. Also, where in the Nanopad are you going to plug in that attached USB cable?

All those options are more expensive and unnecessary if a simple usb hub does the job.

Yeah, I'm a little confused...

Is sampltank on an iPad? Can you not have a usb hub into the iPad (via camera kit thingy) then the keyboard and pads both into that? Is there a reason you need a trad midi output?

Yes this is to be used on an iPad. So none of the above ideas will work

becasue ultimately I need to use the lightning connector cable from the irig to get to the iPad. What I needed was a cable (or adaptor) that could take the USB out of the NanoPad and convert it to midi so I could then merge this MIDI data with other MIDI data going to MIDI in of the iRigPro.

So you connected it with the lightning cable, but the picture above shows that a USB cable is also included.
-> get a camera connection kit -> connect a usb hub to it -> connect both the nanopad & the iRig to the hub.
There is no simple cable to convert the output from a USB slave (Nanopad) to DIN Midi:

or you could build yourself a usb to din midi host using a raspberry pi. works like a treat. or you can buy a Kenton host.

And that Kenton host is pretty expensive.

hmm, yes that could work. I was only thinking iRig DIRECT to iPad...but going through a hub, yeah. I'll check out if iRig has issues with USB hubs.

That's why I pointed out the hobbytronics board, pretty cheap.

But, yeah, both units usb outs to a hub then into the iPad through CCK as T-C said seems easiest/cheapest.

Still awaiting replies (elsewhere) on any hub issues with the iRig....but in the interim, small (as in no mroe than 3 port) POWERED usb hubs are pretty hard to find. And I am guessing the iRig would need a powered HUB. A lot of these iOS devices seem to struggle with passive hubs.
