I'm toying with the idea of buying something to appease my lack of spirital wealth and Podium looks interesting.
In what ways does it surpass other hosts?

Spline editing was a big attraction for me with Podium before I got dug into Orion, eXT & Live..

I find it an attractive Host, but I'm not deviating from what I'm using now till I hit a solid obstacle.

My learning curve makes this essentially impossible :dog:

I haven't really tried it myself. But it looks like there are three steps to do anything in it, which could mean several things:

1. there are 3 steps
2. it's fantastically modular and those three steps can have other little personal steps dropped in the middle to make it worth the time

If you want to get some new toys, but want to save cash, give the fully functioning demo of Green Machine a try. I've had a blast these past few days routing different sounds through it.

Never even heard of Green Machine. How does it do as an authentic guitar amp sim?

It's pretty decent. Check it out for yourself. If I was gonna buy one, I'd get that over Amplitube anyday.

The mp3s sound nice. I've never heard an amp sim so far that rivals the real thing. I wonder if this gets any closer.

I've been using it to slightly dirty up clean sounds, and add a little bit of cabinet "air" to them. Pretty cool for that.

For super chunky guitar stuff, a real amp can't be beat, but it does OK - try the Nu-"something" preset with a guitar in hand. Certainly it's conducive to writing quickly because you're only recording the dry guitar part yet hearing the sim. So you can slap a brutal nu-metal sound on the channel when inspiration strikes, riff it up, then play around with the amp to customize the sound after the fact. As a product, it has been tempting me for weeks now, but not just as a guitar thing.

I should also mention that I don't personally feel the 'verb on it sounds that great, and it's turned on in a lot of presets. Kill that and add a better 'verb. The present one seems to add metallic gunk to the tone.

The GUI is refreshingly crap.

Anyway, what about Podium?

Podium is great - already totally stable - that's because Frits takes every little bug totally seriously and fixing it has always top-priority.
He wouldn't ever make any comment like: 'that can't be Podium's fault' - he's totally professional :hail:
