I was told soon, which is why they supposedly cut off the ability to upgrade from 5.X at the end of July.
I saw that mention of a $49 upgrade at audiomidi.com.
IMHO the real purpose of this upgrade is probably more in order to implement a new copy protection scheme as much as anything else.
We'll see if my hunch is right in a couple months I bet.
Anyway, it would be nice if they fixed the 'remove dc offset' bug as one of the fixes. Anyone around here try right clicking on a piece of audio and doing remove dc offset? You get into the infinite loop and get to watch it go on and on and on and on...
You have to double-click on the audio clip and then do remove dc offset from inside the editor.

is that what weekly email from them says? I haven't read it yet...VitaminD wrote:yeah audiomidi sent out an email today saying they are chopping 200 dollars off the price of SX2 and you can upgrade sx2 to sx3 for $49
seems like its on its way
I worked in just about every music store in my area, going to a retail store sux for me. I know what I want, I have done my research and quite often it turns into a "hey how have you been?" thing. I'm a tough customer, I expect grade A service, I don't want to lose any friends...
But I never price match or ask for a discount when I do, I don't want to take money from the poor salesman's pocket...I've been there. But if you play guitar go to juststrings.com they can't be beat. They are less the 10 miles from me in tax free new hampshire, so I'm twice blessed. They have unbelievable prices on strings...

yup that's what it says, just curious as it seems a good deal. I use AA1.5, FL4, Vsampler3 and B4. What if any would be the benefit for me going with Cubase?
I work in a totaly latency free enviroment, infact I run my buffers all the way up. AA handles audio awesome and I also have an Akai dps12, with a burner. I also have stripping sofware so anything I do with the dps I can import it (but I have to import to the Akai in realtime). I have crapwalk home toilet 2002xl too, but rarely use it. Usually only for nonsense midi files, by nonsense I mean parodies. Like "tell me once, twice, but three times is nagging" "50 ways to find a hooker"...
So is it worth it for me?

Depends on your music - what you do and what you need. And also how you like to work.
I like FLStudio - have the full XXL version.
For me something like Cubase or Sonar, or something along those lines (e.g. that uses a multi-track tape recorder/mixing board paradigm) is easier for me to get my head around when I'm working on a 'regular' song - especially if it includes audio elements. Meaning, if I'm also laying down acoustic instruments, vocals, etc.
Also easier if I'm recording a regular band or vocals, etc. as opposed to doing something electronic.
As I said - depends on what works for you.

While I have no doubt that SX2 is a fairly stable program (based on what I've heard), the number of updates is surely no measure of the number of bugs...?! The logic doesn't follow.ericj23 wrote:yawn -sx2 has had less updates (3)- ie bugfixes than the following sequencers - traktion - sonar 2 - logic 6Banjostar wrote:Pinnacel must buy some more bandwith before releasing SX3. tedious opinion passed off as fact
If one developer is more attentive to small bugs or functionality updates (ie. not always broken software, sometimes improved features or optimization), that doesn't mean their software has more bugs than another.
That's like saying Windows has no problems because they've only released their second Service Pack since 2001.

What is this "using" that you're talking about!?! I thought we're supposed to just buy this stuff and upgrade it like the nice little consumers that we are!
Definitely hear what you're saying about time though...

Why should they do that?Liondream wrote:

I remember reading somewhere that the warez guys think that Steinberg has the best copy protection scheme. Not that it's not being cracked but anyhow.
But they could enhance the software in the dongle though.
But I don't think anyone will upgrade their SX2 if this is the only 'new' functionality. It won't very interesting to crack SX3 when it has no new important functionality don't you think?
The supposed upgrading price for 49$ is at the least interesting.
I was realy pissed off that I had to pay 149 euro to upgrade from SX1 to SX2. SX2 was what SX1 should have been.
I think we are benefitting from the strong competion (Logic, Live, Tracktion, Ext etc.)
Let's wait and see how this will turn out.

I didn't get XXL because I don't need all the synths bur did get sytrus for me I have two copies of FL one is my 23 year old sons, but he's not needing sytrus yet.Liondream wrote:Depends on your music - what you do and what you need. And also how you like to work.

again Adobe Audition 1.5 (updtaed CEpro) is a 128 track multitrack recorder and a great wave editor. With a nice set of fx, pitch correction, stretch, vst support, noise reduction, pop and crackle remover...ect. I do most of work here, composing in FL and writing drum parts using Vsampler3 for drums and soundfonts. For me something like Cubase or Sonar, or something along those lines (e.g. that uses a multi-track tape recorder/mixing board paradigm) is easier for me to get my head around when I'm working on a 'regular' song - especially if it includes audio elements. I use a laptop and have a second set-up in the other room for vocals. Leaving in an condo it's tough, my main studio is one corner of my living room. This doesn't show my PCR50, which is always next to me near the couch. Also easier if I'm recording a regular band or vocals, etc. as opposed to doing something electronic.
As I said - depends on what works for you.

My bedroom setup is so I can do vox without neighbors walking by thinking a cat got stuck in the garbage disposal. I use a small mixer, Presonus blue tube and an Alesis midiverb4 (that is for monitor only, doesn't print to tracks..here's the basic setup (latency free) The preamp has both XLR and TRS outs so one set goes to the board with the feed from the pc out and the other goes to the input of the pc.

So I guess the answer is it wouldn't be a logical investment for me, Ijust wondered if there was something I couldn't do now...thanx...

I would be very careful before claiming that the upgrade price is $49 for everyone. I doubt that that is true... sadly, it is too low. The $49 price will probably be for people who buy SX 2 between now and when SX 3 is released. Companies have to give "insurance" like that, so that sales of SX 2 do not go to zero as soon as the news of SX 3 leaks out. Think about this for a minute, and it will make sense, even if you don't like it.Linde wrote:The supposed upgrading price for 49$ is at the least interesting.

I will be very happy to be proved wrong on this one, but looking at history, I think this is the likely course.

Well, obviously they're not going to sell very many copies of the upgrade if it's just to update the copy protection scheme.
They will probably have a few features and probably throw in another free synth or two to make it attractive. $49 worth at the very least.
As for copy protection... the dongle was obviously easy enough to crack - apparently. So, there will probably be something beyond the dongle I would imagine.
As I said... probably two or three months from now we'll know for sure, eh?
