Best tool to split long wav into parts based on content?

I used Vsampler before for this, but doesn't run well in 64-bit hosts. And gui becomes small on full hd monitors.

I used split tool based on levels to get markers as a suggestion and performs a split when moved some manually to liking.

In this case I don't need mapping to keys like a sampler does, just the splitting stuff.
But I need to easily export as separate wav files.

Are there audio editors that do this maybe?

Cubase. I would just make the event into a part, use the range tool to select the area and <Crop>, and Bounce. This does mean either a copy of the part or Undo Crop to restore the event. But Undo leaves the bounce in the Pool. I'm assuming the Markers bit is done as you say and Hitpoints results are satisfactory. 'based on content' beyond that, I don't know.

as I recall you're not big fan of Samplitude right? Because really that is simple with objects. Draw a range which defines the start and end markers, hit "T" you have just clipped the range and have a new object ready to export. Of course you can do much more to an object if you like, much, much more or just something simple like this. :)

Yes, fiddling with logical editor also made me look for some automatic stuff, if that is possible.

Thinking first step - a limitier driven really hard to make up for very different levels.
Then a gate to render to a new track so it becomes silent in between where I want.

And maybe project logical editor could place markers for me or split that event/part or something. But first glance at details did not give me that option to detect silense, just empty parts - but combined with macros probably can.

I have 4 hours of analog tape from when I practise instruments, and record some things that I might use in a song or so, each 15-60 second.

Digital dictaphones are so good for this, and getting it chopped up in WAV chunks - and the rest is automatic before that - it would be cool.

But I can do evaluation in Cubase as I go instead, but it means sitting in front of computer instead of in the car or on the beach, hehe....

If possible I thought of having as automatic as it is possible, getting at least raw part ready and do some manual stuff placing markers or something.

It was really ok in Vsampler, but cannot get that to run properly anymore.
You had both a blocksize setting, and a sensitiviy and just look through it - and then save library with external files on disc - and they were chopped for you.

I did in Independence earlier today with 30 min material - but I find no way to get those chunks of samples out of there, it only maps to keys with offset samples from the 170 MB file that I imported.

I was trying to get a bunch of wav files - where each is one idea to a song, 99% crap so needs a listen through.
If they are chopped up from start, it's so easy to put on dictaphone and go out somewhere in the nice weather.

Had some fun and progress with this.

A limiter first raising level 20dB setting threshold down -21dB.

Then a gate on -30 dB after that seemed to be about right, so it is dead silent in between.
Re-record this to a new audio track.

Then Detect Silence and setting levels where appropriate, will allow to quickly remove parts that are silent and make separate clips.

Not perfect yet, but we live and learn....

In Soundforge you can highlight the area you want, drag to the desktop and then save as whatever you want. You can automate dropping markers at silence points while recording. Not sure if it does it during playback only. I think Magix have it on sale atm. New version coming soon.

Seems very straight forward.

EDIT: That was really perfect. I did 4 hours of audio in two minutes. Ready to move to dictaphone to easily browse between and what to discard.
