Need new acoustic steel string guitar sample set

Is there a good acoustic guitar sample set that really excels?

Steel strings, not nylon, 12 string, or loops. Auto-strum maybe.

I'd like to find a new sample set that had some real twang & brilliance like the fingerpicking guitar I play. Maybe custom tunings too.

Looking for quality sound here (so not Real Guitar IV please)

Please tell me your fave acoustic steel sample set, and your honest appraisal of it.

appreciated = kev :)

I really like this library from Orange Tree Samples: https://www.orangetreesamples.com/produ ... el-strings. It has both picked and fingered samples, which is nice. It's worth watching the video, listening to the audio, and downloading the manual.
I wish I could sing as well as the voices inside my head...

My favorite is Pettinhouse Acoustic Guitar 2, great steel string sound, great velocity articulations & great strummer, you play chords on your keyboards & it strums patterns

There's a free demo version in the Downloads section, that free version is much simpler but can give you an idea, you can check demos on the site too
There's a bundle sale going on right now

Orange Tree Steel Strings sounds great too, with many different presets

Ha just in case, there's an Acoustic Samples bundle sale going on too

Don't have the GD-6 so I can't tell you

My favorites are the Pettinhouse, the one I use the most, & the Orange Tree, with the different presets

Matt

That Pettinhouse deal looks good.

I'll take a closer look

I bought that. The GD-6 is a bit bland - ok to add a bit of rhythm or texture, but nothing special. The Sunbird one one on the other hand is superbly realistic - playing it with the midi guitar is an absolute joy. That you get it, the GD-6, and a decent Telecaster as well for £70 odd is a steal in my opinion.

I like all the keyswitch functionality, but can't decide if this is the acoustic guitar sound I'm looking for.

The Orange Tree has a nice sound too.

I have a tele already with Presonus (quite a good one when sent through Guitar Rig)

Anyone tried it yet? There's only 30 hours left on the audioplugin deal.

Ample Guitar Taylor: http://www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=6

Ample Guitar Martin: http://www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=4 (you may want to download and try the demo in the download section)

Regarding a 12 string acoustic guitar Ample Sound does not have one ''YET''

The AcousticSamples Sunbird is a great acoustic-electric, best in my book. The GD-6 is a fine acoustic, but so is OrangeTreeSamples' Steel String. BTW, much prefer the AcousticSamples Telematic to the PreSonus one TBH.

Definitely lotta good options... Orange Tree, Pettinhouse, Ample Sound, AS Sunbird... the Sunbird is UVI so requires iLok FYI... OrangeTree is either Kontakt full OR player... Pettinhouse require full Kontakt (not player)... AmpleSound is standalone...

The only problem with OTS is deciding between Evolution Steel Strings or Evolution Flatpick 6... ESS is finger+pick while EF6 is pick only... ESS is probably better "all purpose", while EF6 maybe has a little more character.. listen to the demos... the chording and auto-legato are both top notch, and tone of each is top notch as well...

They all sound great, but I think OTS wins overall... virtually infinitely customizable from controller mappings to pick position etc. etc. etc.

You need to limit that rez, bro.

Yeah.. I just played it again... really nice, full body with character... manual strumming is really easy too... tough choice, either OTS or Sunbird.

I've got the amplesound Taylor as well as AS Sunbird so can directly compare those. Never used Orangetree, though from the demos it does sound nice.

AGT has a much brighter character and lends itself really well to rhythm stuff with the detailed top end sitting well in a busy mix (that'll be 99% of everything I'll ever write then..). I think Sunbird has the edge in more exposed parts (from my short time using it); as Kbaccki says, it has real character and a more rounded tone.

Features wise I think AGT just has it. Both are easy to work with but AGT scores for me as it's really easy to create custom (ok, unplayable...chords) whereas this is a bit more inaccessible in Sunbird. The pattern maker is much easier in AGT too, and the dual mode is great for really wide rhythm stuff.

I'd have em both! If I had to pick between the two, I'd just go for the AGT, plus there's the free, slightly cut down but functional Martin fingerpicked one as well, which is outstanding for a freebie.

Not to cause any further controversy here on KVR (hah!), but just out of curiosity... why do you not consider RG4 to be of quality?

I mean, sure, the samples are a bit "dated" at this point, but nothing that the right EQ and compression can't fix? Also, for the money you invest, you do(!) get several guitars (incl. 12-string), and a great "brain" to play this thing.

So my question would be:
Are you only after the samples and instant gratification (read: the sound), or also "playability"?

Because this would separate the field drastically IMO. AmpleSound is not the holy grail in this case either. Not to mention that I'm a bit put off with the price politics regarding "add-ons" to make the instruments more versatile. This is adding up quickly regarding costs.

However - Pettinhouse was mentioned a couple of times at this point. Andrea Pettinao definitely deserves more love and attention. Although (and I'm being honest here), at some point you do feel like grasping for more - at least this happened for me (I still love using his Bass Guitar and HB E-Guitar though). But for "entry level" or "hey, I want to add to my collection", you can't do anything wrong - if you have Kontakt as full version already.

Orange Tree Samples on the other hand, is one of the leading lights regarding "playability" (keyswitches, sometimes automated) for Kontakt sample sets.

But for completeness' sake:
Impact Soundworks - Acoustic Revolutions (Loops, WAV/REX for vol1, WAV for vol 2)
In Session Audio (formerly Nine Volt Audio, Loops and Kontakt Loop instruments)

And people tend to like Ilya Efimov. Not to mention that "Komplete" comes with a load of samples packages as well.
