Based on what I have read on these forums and the Synapse Audio forums I expect Dune 3 to have a full wavetable editor, take advantage developments from doing Legend (filters etc) and no doubt some interface improvments as well as updated effects. I think it is such a well balanced synth the features to ease of use ratio is very good indeed, and it sounds good, certainly one of the top VST synths at the moment IMO. Until then I am very happy playing with Dune 2.

Even if you aren't into unison sounds (Im not especially) the layer editing is excellent and should be utilised on all synths with layers.

(I have and love The Legend and based on the demo would like to own Dune 2 as well).
Check the buy/sale forum for secondhand sales

But beware that a second hand license will become NFR.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Indeed, I have considered it. I generally prefer buying from the developer/company though, puts the cash into the company and towards future products.

And by all means, $169 seems a fair price, it would just be a bit annoying at this point if there was a sale the day after I bought it.

That's good to know, thanks.

Good replies, my last reply I wrote out a long one on my phone but I lost it. So thanks for clarifying. Synapse hasn't had a sale in awhile now so maybe 4th of July they may have one although I cannot find any prior sales at that period of time. They also seem to be releasing the Dune 2 Cinematic soundset sooner rather than later. There may be a sale at that time as well. Either way Dune is worth the regular price. You can make most sounds out of it. It's rather easy to use. It's fun and they really put everything into it, as they have very little synths for sale meaning they really went out on Dune 2. It's a great company and I find Dune 2 good for any type of musician. Most other synths just can't do enough as an all around synth until you reach around $200. Zebra comes to mind, and you have Falcon/Vengeance/Omnipshere etc. I would pair it with an in your face synth though as Dune's weaknesses are it has in the back feel and it's a little flat and muffled- it doesn't pop out with clarity. It's perfect for everything else really. I couldn't recommend it any more for someone who wants to make music and isn't just a synth aficionado. I'm looking forward to Dune 3 and I'm sure it will sound even better. It's got a lot of character. It feels really nice with the bells and plucks. And it has a lot of sound for the memory use. Just my opinions look for yourself and take them with a grain of salt.

Appreciate the comments. It's really a question of when I buy Dune 2, not if :)
I instantly liked it when I tried the demo, very versatile as you say, and has a certain something to the sound.

I don't have any problem with the regular price, but I have a few good synths already (Zebra/Omnisphere/Repro-1/Bazille/Hive/The Legend) so it's not like I can't get anything done without it. Just trying to show a bit of restraint, for once.

I'm interested in the Cinematic soundset as well, as that's precisely what I'll be using it for.

We'll see just how long I manage to wait.......

what do you mean by NFR please ? I'm thinking of selling my Dune 2 licence in near future and so I can factor into the price- are you are saying anyone that bought the licence off me (I bought direct from Synapse) can't re-sell in the future ?

is there any charge to transfer a licence ?

I love the sound of Dune 2 - but somehow the design mechanism/GUI doesn't work with the way my brain works :( so not getting on with it

We do license transfers for free. Since this involves work on our end, however, we decided to only transfer licenses from original buyers. If there is ever the need to transfer a second hand license, just talk to us, and we'll find a solution. IIRC this request has been only made once in the past couple years, so this seems like a rather rare case to begin with.

Well, I have sold my license (which I bought directly from the developer), but then regretted selling it, so I bought it second hand again. I have now an NFR license but this really doesn't bother me as I love this synth the more I spend my time with. IMO, I think it is a fair plan for both developers and users.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

The same here (beside i bought it again from Synapse Audio, so i don't have an NFR).
Their support is great and really customer friendly and that is important as the tools itself to bound customers for the future.
I also feel better to have a maybe good deal on a maybe next version of Dune :D

Needs bigger GUI.

Works and looks fine if i zoom it full screen but i agree. I would love a bigger GUI as well (especially for high-resolution screens) and hope for other important GUI improvements.

Let's wait and see how Dune 3 will be ;)

If I think of GUI improvements for Dune 2, then yes, size option would be great (like in the Legend) and also coloured layers ( the colours are already there) to make it easier to know which layer I'm in :) They are minor things of course.
