Boy you guys have no imagination. 4 Layers, FX, Per Layer Arps. If you can't think of ways to get cool sounds out of Syntronik you might as well retire......

Well, if there's a silver lining here it would be that since it is June 4th we are looking at less than two months. I know, that's a lot of help, right?Teksonik wrote:Boy you guys have no imagination. 4 Layers, FX, Per Layer Arps. You don't need to program them in your head because you can do that with ANY synth now so long as your DAW supports the routing, and pretty much every DAW of note does.Teksonik wrote:Boy you guys have no imagination. 4 Layers, FX, Per Layer Arps. Some even make this trivial, such that patch saving is really indistinguishable from synths that have those features on board, notably Reason and Live.
There's no shortage of imagination here, just a better understanding of technology than you seem to realize.
If you're looking forward to this, good for you. However, if you don't want those of us who aren't all that impressed correcting your misconceptions, perhaps you should avoid criticizing people who aren't as impressed with the emperor's clothes.

I'm looking forward to this as well so good for me too then, right?
As for misconceptions, I think it is those who were trying to make this more than it is, to fit their conception of what they had hoped for but were let down when it wasn't, seems to be more of the fact here.
I have no misconception of what it is or why am buying it for or what I am going to be using it for...and really a simple line about lacking imagination, with a joking icon as well, should be justification for people to criticise? Sad.

Let me be explicit so that you understand what I mean by misconception. It is a misconception to think that those of us who aren't impressed lack imagination. There's very little to imagine with such a synth. Collections of samples, arps, and effects have been around for decades. If you haven't imagined how to layer some samples with a few arps by now, you really have no place calling out other people's imagination.JJ_Jettflow wrote:ghettosynth wrote:You don't need to program them in your head because you can do that with ANY synth now so long as your DAW supports the routing, and pretty much every DAW of note does.Teksonik wrote:Boy you guys have no imagination. 4 Layers, FX, Per Layer Arps. As for misconceptions,
You see, this is another misconception, and one I wouldn't need to address if you hadn't made it. Since you did, I will correct you. While reading the correction, you should ask yourself if that's the response that you want to read in this thread? If not, save your judgements about people who don't like this product, because they are almost certainly, not only wrong, but lacking in any depth.I think it is those who were trying to make this more than it is, to fit their conception of what they had hoped for but were let down when it wasn't, seems to be more of the fact here.
I doubt that most of us who find this uninspiring have any feelings of being let down by IKM, I know that I don't. I had zero expectations of this product. It's IKM, they have not demonstrated any ability at all do create interesting synthesizers. My sole reason for participation was to help people understand that it's a rompler. I wish IKM well, and I'm sure that there's a market for this just like there is for UVI products and other rompler based products.
That isn't what I was referring to, as should now be clear. Hopefully you now understand that the misconception I was referring to was EXACTLY the thing that you are asserting is sad, namely, that someone believes that they can judge others based on their own limited perspective.I have no misconception of what it is or why am buying it for or what I am going to be using it for...and really a simple line about lacking imagination, with a joking icon as well, should be justification for people to criticise? Sad.
I would suggest that those of you who like this product and can't handle product criticism to simply let it go. Perhaps a little introspection would be helpful before judging other people as "lacking in imagination." If you can't resist, don't get upset when your limited logic is painted with a slightly brighter shade than you wanted anyone else to see.

I would suggest the people who do not like this product and can't handle the fact no one cares if they do or not, should simply let it go. So there is a point of agreement from all sides; let it go.ghettosynth wrote: I would suggest that those of you who like this product and can't handle product criticism to simply let it go. Let what go? We're discussing a product, that's what we do here. We discuss technology and that's what we're going to continue to do when new products are announced. Our discussion and criticism is limited to the product, I suggest that others do the same and stop taking it personally. Nobody called your baby ugly, we're just talking about a "synthesizer."JJ_Jettflow wrote:I would suggest the people who do not like this product and can't handle the fact no one cares if they do or not, should simply let it go. You should prepare yourself because when it comes out I am ABSOLUTELY going to talk about what I think of the new filters. If they're great, that's a signal to me that IKM is stepping up their game in terms of synth development and that's what I care about.

Can't wait to read all about it..oh wait, that's right, I'm going to be busy making music with Syntronik at that time...making music, that's what I care about.ghettosynth wrote: You should prepare yourself because when it comes out I am ABSOLUTELY going to talk about what I think of the new filters. syntronik is not a rompler. A lot of idealistic naysayers here, but personally I have a feeling its going to perform fantastically. They sampled the oscillators. Ok, is that really a problem? Rather then trying to model the sonic character of the underlying oscillators, they have simply sampled them. Patches are still constructed the old fashioned way of taking the oscilator and then applying filters, modulations, envelopes, and even FX. IK has modeled several filters and provided a bunch of modeled FX. This is synthesis. This is not a rompler. Some purists are worried that it will not sound good that way....well...we shall see...but its still going to come down to understanding how these synthesizers work and programming them the old fashioned synthesis way.
I don't even need this product, I have a lot of other synths already, many of them duplicated by this product, but I bought it anyway just because my price right now is only $69 with jam points. No brainer! I like that they will all be tied together into one interface, ability to mix and match the filters between them...2000 presets.... There is plenty of sonic power there for me! But we shall see how it sounds and how authentic the synthesis emulation is on each of the synths when it finally comes out. I think people are worried too much about the fact that osc's were sampled. I say.. no big deal. They sampled them and apply some algorithms to drift and acheive enough variation to the basic osc that it will likely sound very good to most people... will they be authentic? eh... dunno...but I have a feeling they are going to sound fantastic and its a lot of synths in one package.

We all care about making music, to suggest otherwise just comes off as a petty attempt to differentiate when you have nothing to base your differentiation on. We also all like to talk about plugins, clearly, I present as evidence, this thread. If you didn't like talking about plugins, you'd be busy making music instead, and I wouldn't be responding.JJ_Jettflow wrote:Can't wait to read all about it..oh wait, that's right, I'm going to be busy making music with Syntronik at that time...making music, that's what I care about.ghettosynth wrote: You should prepare yourself because when it comes out I am ABSOLUTELY going to talk about what I think of the new filters. I am, BTW, doing exactly that while I post here. I'm mixing my performance from earlier today. See, that's what's great about making music in the modern era, we can do other things at the same time because it's all done on a computer.

Actually, what the problem is, is that you are limited to what you can do with this product from a synthesis perspective.Dewdman42 wrote:syntronik is not a rompler. As just one example to clearly illustrate this point, take osc sync. There is no osc sync control on these synths. All the osc sync "sounds" are the ones sampled from the synths at those particular settings. Therefor, when doing an osc sync patch, you are limited to the settings inside the osc's themselves. There is no true real time control over this effect, at least not to the degree that you would have with a synth that actually has an osc sync control in the interface.
Now, is this going to matter much in the long run? I don't know. It will depend on the uses that people come up with for this synth. But if I want to do the kind of classic osc sync sounds that I do with my synths that have this function, knowing exactly what I need to do in order to get "precisely" those sounds, I am pretty sure that I won't be able to go into that kind of depth with this product and therefor, if I want to get those particular sounds, I'm going to have to look elsewhere.
And that's fine. Not every synth I have does everything, which is why I don't just own one synth.
As others have said, there is a market for this. There are people who will find this perfectly acceptable from a pure sound generation perspective. But if you're looking to make every conceivable sound that the actual synth could make, this product will not be capable of doing that because of its limitations.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. But it is what it is. And trying to make it something that it isn't doesn't make any sense.
I hope the darn thing sells like hotcakes so that 1K can put that money into more cool stuff, like maybe a modeled guitar similar to MODO Bass which is just flat out off the wall amazing.
So here's to the market that's going to gobble this up like tic tacks.

missing osc is a bit of a big deal, I agree. In that alone it would be easy to say these are NOT authentic recreations, but just a cool collection of synths that are in the spirit of the originals. in my mind, still totally worth $69. Where did you get the information about no osc sync?

Read the thread, I pointed this out quite early in the thread. All the information you need to confirm this for yourself is already available. Adding drift and modeled filters doesn't make it "not a rompler." That's the definition of a synthesizer that uses sample playback in the classic sense in lieu of other oscillators, and, doesn't let you use your own samples. That's what we call that kind of synth.Dewdman42 wrote:missing osc is a bit of a big deal, I agree. I don't have time to read the whole thread, nor would I want to. I'd still like to know how you know the osc sync is missing, but not enough to read this whole thread, sorry.ghettosynth wrote:Read the thread, I pointed this out quite early in the thread. And sorry no....its not a rompler..you're killing your credibility with that assertion. They very well may not be complete recreations of each of these synthesizers, we shall see...but if they provide the filters, modulation capabilities etc..then they are nothing short of synthesizers that simply use samples for the underlying OSC rather then generating simple waveforms algorithmically. its splitting hairs...
