I asked that awhile back and I am pretty sure the answer was it's ok (just don't do anything perverse with it), but I never ended up using it.

So none of that obvious modulation and whatever? Gotcha.
Rules say midi modulation is a-ok but my daw of choice leaves me a bit sol in that department. So if I understand this right, I can't use anything that has a price tag except my daw even if I gotta use a 3rd party paid plug for midi modulation?

Awesome track docdoctorbob wrote:Just a quick note to say I have updated my track. Added another instance of LotS and 2 more autopans!
Also tamed those nasty HF's on the lead sound (it's now 2 layers!).
Please enjoy.

Thanks. Did think the kick was a bit overkill ... but, do you like the snazzy hats and little snare hits?
Maybe I'll push the kick down a bit - it was there mainly to emphasise the bass in the final section (might be interesting to sidechain the bass to push the kick down - I'll experiment).
The whole lot of rippling delays are in fact 3 harmony tracks, each with a different autopan (speed and stereo range) and then routed to a single spreading delay with extra feedback and cross feedback!
I'm on it...
dB
Edit: OK. Character of kick altered and reduced in volume. Added an extra perc track to add more interest in the last section. (So another LotS, ReaEQ and Midi Note filter - will change the original details)
Enjoy!

I'm with you, Local Man. Will need to sit this one out. It seems that due to the nature of the competition (i. e. free plug-ins) Mac as a platform is trickier since a lot of the free plug-ins are Windows only. In the last 6 months, we've had 3 Windows-only plug-ins and one totally broken Mac VST (vst2413, could barely get a sound out).Local Man wrote:Hello, I am new to this forum. This seems like a really fun competition and I would love to participate but unfortunately I primarily use a Mac. Anyway, would you say the synths chosen for this competition are typically windows only or are they more often than not cross-platform? (I'm debating whether I should fire up my old unreliable Gateway PC with Sonar 8 or if i should wait it out a month so I can use Logic on my mac where I am way more comfortable.)
What I'd probably do is go through the list of plug-ins already used in OSC and suggest new ones that are multi-platform.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I just found the list of previously used synths and it's pretty extensive! I think the only free synth I've used on mac that's not on that list is Nusofting Noisetar but that would make for a pretty formidable one synth challenge!toggleaudio wrote:I'm with you, Local Man. This is a pretty fun synth. Spending way too much time making an overdrive guitar sound do tremolo. That mod wheel is magic man.

Noisetar looks promising. Haven't tried it myself yet, but promising and it seems stable and ready-made ... +1Local Man wrote: Cool, thanks for the tip. By the way there's a lot of other recent suggestions for Synths from User 574X in the General Osc Discussion (inbetween the voting consultations...). All I remember are Synths Spiral and Black ...
I was recently thinking of spicing things up for me a bit. ONe was to do some sort of self restriction like using no FX, or just very limited set. Or doing a Rea-Competition (Reaper): Use any Rea-Plugin be it the Precompiled or ReaJS Script you like and find yourself a ReaSynth e.g. http://www.taletn.com/reaper/mono_synth/
Best Regards

Guys, please make these suggestions in the general thread.
Easier to track down.
That reaper id is fun though.

A beautifully sounding synth!
Unfortunately, when I'm trying to open more than two instances in FL Studio, it crashes
Any advices?

HERE WE GO! (duck'n'cover)
Lord of the Springs v2.0.2
In the preset menu, use...
[*]DOUBLE CLICK to load a preset or bank!
[*]RIGHT CLICK to remove programs or delete files!
When NOISE is activated (Spring B diffusion at 100%) Spring B's low and high frequency range dials become NOISE FILTER frequency and resonance!

My submission for this month. It features a funny Lead/Key-Sound which unintentionally sounds very close to the lead sound in the Futurama theme. I picture Fry chilling on the beach with Bender serving drinks from his inside!

YES! Taron, V2.0.2, excellent update.
The added features for the noise generator are great - you can now get a really great "fizzzzzzzzzzz" for percussive events.
I now have to update my track using these improvements. - I wonder how many times I will feel the need to do this??
Every update maybe?
But, kudos man - an interesting synth no doubt. I guess the noise generator will become it's own feature independent of Spring B sometime? Or is it intrinsically bound up with the DSP code of the spring? (I suspect not - but I could be wrong eh?)
So ... tweak LotS, mix mix, render render ... and repeat until cooked!
Cheers,
dB
PS ... The "link" switch decay+diffuse on Spring B doesn't seem to latch the knobs together? Bug, or awaiting implementation?

Bob, YAY, I'm very happy about your reaction!
The "link" should be fine. It just won't have effect on the NOISE choice. This link only works for "diffusion" on Spring B.
The NOISE could be separate, but it runs instead of Spring B on the same integration path, which made it so pleasant to implement. For this incarnation of LotS I believe I will keep it that way, too. But one day, well, one day we should know: The "String" is going to return!
Anyhow, I've uploaded a new version with updated presets about, well, 5 minutes ago. It's just minor fixes for preset GUI and a new Default BASS bank. I almost believe the preset GUI should be properly functional now. Possibly you might run into weird stuff I haven't realized, yet, but if you do, please, let me know!!!
If all goes well, this version should stick for this OSC. It's hard for me to resist hooking up Velocity controls beyond the hardcoded solutions. Right now, for example, Modulation ENV responds to velocity intrinsically, but there are more natural connections throughout.
However, especially on the noise filter section I'm itching to hook up velocity and tracking. But not now. It's spelling trouble, really. The current speed is hard to hold up with any additions, you know.
THANKS AGAIN, I'm really thrilled you like it!
