Very interesting. It was no secret their previous iMac was the fastest machine for audio and this one looks to take the cake. 18 cores, 4.5 GHz? Holy mother of God. :o

Where's the box!? No box? It's all in the monitor? How much for the stock version? ...and hyper-threading is back. 500watts(total) heat dissipation. "Rich bass"? Where's the sub-woofer in the keyboard? There they are->

It will cost that + more.
Glad I just bought a MBP so I don't have to be led into madness.

Starting at $4999, although base spec isn't actually that disastrous for a change :-

8 Core Xeon
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
TB3
10GB Ethernet
5k Retina
Radeon Vega workstation GPU

Actually pretty comparable with a similarly specced PC, although I would imagine speccing it up from there becomes exponentially more expensive.

Maybe this will make Elektron consider supporting Xeons.

For that kind of price it's not very attractive. But it's a Mac, after all :P

Not if you don't need that power, no. But if you do, it's fairly comparable to a specced PC with a good quality screen.

Dear God, please make me win the lottery.

I guess this iMac Pro is too much for the most common audio users.

All that power inside an IMac case?

Mmmm, toasty warm and lots of fan noise is my perdition.

On the other hand, if you need that power but already have a screen you're satisfied with -- or don't need 5k in the first place :) -- you can get significantly better spec for a lot less money.

Wondering how much CPU can be used before this mac too becomes a hoover? I've not heard a single mac not coming a hoover when CPU is used longer time with higher utilization than "normally" (fecesbook browsing or such... :) )
Soft Knees - Live 12, Diva, Omnisphere, Slate Digital VSX, TDR, Kush Audio, U-He, PA, Valhalla, Fuse, Pulsar AUDIO, NI, OekSound etc. on Win11Pro R7950X & RME AiO Pro

Never had that issue, whether with my Mac Pro 2009 nor iMac 2012.

So, does this mean the Trash Can Mac Pro has an announced death?

Yeah they admitted a while back that they backed themselves into a thermal wall with the trashcan (like the Cube before). Hence the lack of any updates for it. Maybe it'll become a collectors item in a few years.

There was also talk of a proper "modular" Mac Pro in the works for maybe next year.
