Softube Tape

Spent more time with it, and in my main studio A.Omkar wrote:Just had the mail.
Not sure if I buy into Softube any longer, Tarantino may dub it "The Gobbler Situation".
Is there an official Softube statement offline installers to be continued ?
Some jumped into the water, do you see Tape installer in account ?
Did you compare with Studer ?zvenx wrote:It sounds very good imho, but doesn't add anything that I am not getting from my UAD tape plugins.
Alas for me a day late and a dollar short.

It is definitely preferable to me to Slate;s and U=he's tape plugins which I have stopped using for awhile now (well never really ever used the u-he plugin, bought it to support the company)
I own all three UAD's.. including the studer of course.
in most cases I preferred the UAD ones, yes often all 3, but what I do like with the Softube Tape is like Oxide it is much easier to use (important for me, studer and the atr sound great but just way too many controls for me to use effectively), but compared to Oxide, it is very easy to get different flavours by choosing A,B, or C Machine, which you can't do in Oxide.
If it wasn't for the whole damn Gobbler thing, there deliberate attempt to make installation and updating via non Gobbler methods exceedingly cumbersome ( for each plugin I have for them, I have to download and install, mac, win32 and win 64) and my ST boycott from henceforth, I would probably have bought it.

I'm back.Gamma-UT wrote:I have Saturation Knob showing in mine among the paid-for stuff (mainly the old studio pack plugins), so may be a glitch in your account if it's not there.
The latest version, which I just downloaded to test that I wasn't giving out duff advice, is: 2.4.17. They all appear to be at that version, presumably because they use the same framework across all their plugins.
Had to click on ''Get Demo'' for Saturation Knob. I was sent an email and the Plug-In was added to My Account Downloads section.
''Free License Deposited for Saturation Knob''
That means I don't need to use Gobbler just yet.
Sorry for the Off Topic. This has been a great help to me if that's any compensation.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

@all, thanks for the replies.
Yes, all previous purchases are there,
somehow I must have been floundered into Gobbler before and all previous purchases are there
(thanks to "morelia" for the hint on Page 1).
Confusing parts for example:
How Sotfube will continue ? The offline installers must be provided as such.
How to know offline installers are latest ? Cannot be compared with online versions.
How to know offline installers to be continued or do become legacy (as a business model) at some point ?
My main interest here is to save a good amount of bucks on Studer for the track section
if you find Tape to be a reasonable option ?

though you won't have as many options as the studer, but if you don't need to adjust every last parameter, then I say sure, go for it.

Anybody knows "which" STUDER and EMI tape machine models these are supposed to be?
If it's the J37 (sometimes misinterpreted as an EMI product)... then I'll definitely take a closer look. I really don't like the sound of the the Waves AMPEX (Kramer Tape), and the Abbey Road/Studer J37 is overpriced IMO. And according to JRR shop, this is supposed to be a Studer/Ampex/EMI tape thing.
Sadly, no matter how many FR's I file for Slate VTM (I lost count at this point), still no 7.5ips mode. Even though BOTH the A800 and A828 had that for backwards compatibility reasons.
EDIT:
And Q regarding Gobbler - looks like it's not mandatory. But how can one evade incorporating that additional branch on top of iLok?!

It is mandatory to register or cross link your softube account with them, but not mandatory for downloading and installing, just very cumbersome, if you have a few softube plugins.

Gobbler didn't correctly install on my system (seems there's "also" a prob with the Downstreamseverproxy.exe thing)
Gobbler does bring out a new version which doesn't need it to start at log-in..
(I was in contact with them the last 2 weeks)
Windows
If you cannot log-in to gobbler, go to:
C: Programs(X86)->MediaGobbler.Inc->Downstream Proxy..then inside of the folder start the .exe.
-> then log-in with taskbar icon)
(edit..i also asked about latency.. an answer came just seconds before my post..funny. Thanks!)

I'd be new to this (I think, I once downloaded the One-Knob Saturator but never installed it)... although I had the Gobbler app on my rig once... and I'd rather not talk about the... er... performance and... background tasks.zvenx wrote:It is mandatory to register or cross link your softube account with them, but not mandatory for downloading and installing, just very cumbersome, if you have a few softube plugins.

Must not be 1:1, but you know the depth and detail UADs able to give.
An option could be to have Mike`s specific talk about it at YTCompyfox wrote:Anybody knows "which" STUDER and EMI tape machine models these are supposed to be?

Does this allow iLok machine-based licensing like Soundtoys - or dongle only?

The demo installer let me choose between the soft licenser or the dongle. I suppose the full version is the same.zentatonic wrote:Does this allow iLok machine-based licensing like Soundtoys - or dongle only?
