Please remover the filter and oscillators, I love the pure sound of good envelopes.

Can v3 have a sound character other than fluffy, smooth, blandness ? Then I might be able to use it. The audio engine is not hi fi enough for me, it sounds like putting 128kbps MP3 samples into a mix. I am not a fan, make it much better than it is please.
Well you might as well say what you feel every now and then, same with Zebra 2. No bite, bland boring sound with poor character, no depth or detail or interest, too controlled and safe.
2 synths firmly in my "waste of money" category.
Both Zebra 3 and Dune 3 better be a real jump in quality in the realms of audio fidelity and sonic interest departments.
.dll dust gatherers.

Uhhhh, well I like Dune because it higher then average audio rates. The sound is the sound of Dune and it's unique, different, and highly addictive. Maybe you just don't like the sound of it which is fine. As soon as I uninstalled the Demo I missed it though!

Wow. I'm surprised to hear you say that. I agree with you up to a point actually, but it is capable of more character and non bland boring type sounds, with a bit more work. Actually, it's more about finding these edgier sweet spots, then its quite easy to dial them in whenever neededSynthman2000 wrote:Can v3 have a sound character other than fluffy, smooth, blandness ? V3 better count. Don't V3 Zebra or Dune without pushing the limits of what they can sonically be, they are supposed to be flagships right ?
Then put every last bit of effort into making them better is my opinion cause I find them both sonic bores. Maybe I just like my synths more hifi with a bit more edge. They never sound right in a mix to me.
Really difficult to explain properly. They simply don't fit my sonic impression of good synths that I yearn and get excited about loading in track. I like clarity, grit and some character that makes a synth stand out, neither of these cut it for me personally, that is all I can say really.
I hugely prefer Massive than either, GUI, sound, everything and it is ages old. I bought them because of peer pressure and well, just mistakes I guess. We all make mistakes.
If you love these synths, cool, seriously. Great for you enjoy and make tunes. They just don't work for me and if they are V3 ing them then it would be nice to know there are not just a few tweaks here and there and GUI spruce up.
I want them to kick some sonic a** not slouch along in the slow lane, meh blah blah this and that. These should be 220kph down the sonic Autobahn and if they are not by V3 then it is a real shame as flagships.
I don't recall a fuss about the good quality of NI Massives LFO speeds and how good they sound (or that silly term audio rate modulation) but the LFO's there are fast and good and shock horror..... old !
Expect more and you might get it.

Well the developers could code that but it would melt your CPU as soon as you hit a single key. We are being held back by the hardware currently and we all have to make concessions on what it is we want out of our instruments, and the developers have to work with what they have. Dune's sound is unapologetic and it's modern and unique, but there are times it sounds an awful lot like HIVE FYI. It can go analog on you! Check "eagle lead" preset.

Once the new wavetable generator is embedded in Dune 3, I know this will be a huge thing. I just hope V2 patches will be compatible, though, I'm sure I read somewhere that it will be. I really, really can't wait to see what's new in V3.
Here's a little video Synthman2000 about a few edgier, more character full sounds dune 2 can make. I don't know exactly if this is the type of sound you have in mind but would be happy to make a tutorial for you if you can post a link to a sound you mean. I put the video together in less than 5 minutes, so its very roughly made
The sounds imo either have character or are edgy, the later more towards the middle of the video.

Sure he is. Everybody who doesn't like Dune is a troll.AnX wrote: He's a troll
As for me, I quite like the GUI layout, the modmatrix and the overall feature set, the sound - not so much (because I'm a troll
Overall I would describe Dune as sounding very smooth and polite, which is good for certain sounds and genres but not what I'm after.
Anyway I'm waiting for v.3 cause I hope Richard learned a lot when developing the Legend

I just walked into my studio and sat down and played the preset "eagle lead" for a few seconds for you...as is, you could turn down the reverb, add your favorite distortion...whatever...

Absolutely +1, on everything in this post.recursive one wrote:Sure he is. Everybody who doesn't like Dune is a troll.AnX wrote: He's a troll

I like the FM oscillator, the filters are nice, the analog envelopes are ok. The VA oscillator sounds bland and weak, the wavetable one largely depends on what you feed into it but I'm not too keen on the factory WTs. The effects are mostly so-so, esp the distortions. The unison tends to sound muddy and prone to generate some junk frequencies (the demos of the trance patches sold by Synapse show this very well). I'm relatively new to this oscillator as a mod source thing but so far I'm getting better sounding results with this approach in Spire.

Not really. Ppl who give piss poor reasons, and ultimately cant program synths... well...recursive one wrote:Sure he is. Everybody who doesn't like Dune is a troll.AnX wrote: He's a troll
There really isnt much you cant do with Zebra and Dune, but apparently they sound dull....

I'm not a sounddesign wizard but I've programmed quite a few sounds in Dune. And in other synths too. Aside from the patches based on FM I prefer the sounds I manage to get from other synths even if Dune can techncially do the same things, because of the character.
I remember that Eagle Lead patch, it's nice indeed, but not off the hook nice.
