Back on the topic with "reinstated Windows 7 support":
That... is surprising. Why would "Gobbler" insist on Windows 8 and up only? I mean... Slate Digital stuff is also distributed via that platform - and Slate did not(!) drop Windows 7 support. In fact - that stuff is running absolutely fine over here.

Sounds like a moment to me...

I'd feel cheated if I bought it. Studio One users get extra features. Not fair.

The only one you should feel cheated by is your DAW maker (though honestly, you shouldn't feel cheated by anyone). Send them an email or feature request and get on them to implement something similar into your DAW.

For rock it is much worse. Records from as late as 1992-5 suffer from shit digital recording and mastering. The Ramones sound much better than The Pixies and My Bloody Valentine's Loveless is a masterpiece but the cassette release sounds better than the CD!

I popped it into my car and started listening on the way home - and swore my tape player was going bad because of Kevin's brilliant use of effects! I thought my tape was being eaten or it was warped! Lol!

I got a copy on CD a short time later and was blown away to realize that the oscillating wow, flutter, and tape speed was intentional. A masterpiece, indeed!

i like this plugin a lot. Re bounced a couple projects with it and listened in the car. Worth a try and not too expensive.

He's actually riding the "whammy bar" on his guitar, slowly wavering the pitch to give it that warped, seasick vibe. Combine with heavy flanger, phaser etc for craziness. What an album. Insane amount of digital headroom on that album too, never reaches above -2db or something.

Well.. I just tried the demo and there's no doubt at all that this thing sounds amazing. Very easy to use and get only the "best" parts of tape.

Even set to it's most subtle and non-authentic settings (no noise, no wobble etc) it's very pleasing. This is something I didn't find with Satin, which requires more of the full simulation to be "pleasing". Especially asperity noise and some electronics saturation. If you minimize all these, the actual saturation isn't all that impressive in Satin (which just shows that it's a truly epic total-emulation.. as it needs all the parts to sound like tape, which it does emulate brilliantly).

For quick pleasing results the Softube Tape is in a league of it's own. I can dial in pleasing and more importantly, predictable results in just a few seconds. This is not at all the case with any of my other pluins.. the only exception being IK Saturator X which is dead simple to use but a bit limiting.

I may have to purchase this. Anybody know how long the introductory price lasts?

EDIT: There's just something about how the sub bass and bass in general gets tucked in that is very appealing in this plugin. It does it better than anything else I have lying around.

If you ever used a plain compact cassette tape and "under-driven" the signal, you will realize that the sound is fairly "clean", maybe lacking certain frequencies (mostly low-end), sometimes just too much noise. But boost it into the red-zone... all kinds of effects

Reminded me of the Akai 4000DS, the mainstay of my recording back then.

If it wasn't hammering into the red it didn't sound right.

Staying on topic:

bmanic's endorsement is big one for KVRs. You mightn't always agree with him, but he always has a worthwhile POV.

Setting 2 - the bass one - sounds absolutely brilliant in the demo vids I've viewed. What an option to have in your armoury, that warm intimacy that certain types of reverb confer - except it's not a reverb

I've got to buy this now, though I'm not sure how it'll sit with Console Shaper, and all that crosstalk flying around. We'll see

Ok, I'm sold! I hoped it was only my GAS for a new plugin, coming from one of my most loved developer, far chepear than his standard, and that my ears were obnubilate by the great GUI, but the bmanic's post frees my dirty conscience and helps me to open my wallet again.

For those of you who are seeing great results, what kind of material / settings? I've tried it on a couple rock tunes and so far don't really notice much of a difference except maybe a slight 3D-ness, but not as noticeable as VTM (louder and more 3D it seems, but we all know how louder deceives). I love the fact of no latency (VTM does have latency and have to level match) plus I do work in S1 so would like to get this.

for those of you who are complaining about Windows 7 support, there are two different kinds of "support" that exist - "support" as in "it runs", and "support" as in "if you're running on that platform, we'll fix bugs if you report them". the lack of support for Windows 7 doesn't necessarily mean it won't run - it may just mean that you're on your own and don't expect bugs related to Windows 7 get fixed in upcoming updates, and don't expect future compatibility.
