Not sure if I need more atm, as I already have Reaktor 6, but...hmmm... payday soon...(GAS)
how?? I thought it is $125 with drummica.
Haha, so it is. I paid for an update...argh
Why didn't I think? No excuses...

-Note to self, stop following GAS impulses in the middle of the night.
ouch! gotta be careful next time man. who knows if you accidentally bought komplete at full price :hihi:
Hehehe, yeah. A Komplete blunder.
I can't understand how I managed that. Been on the fence for so many years now, that I may have dropped headfirst when I came down.

Speaking of Komplete Blunders....

I bought the ultimate update and choose the shipping option with the hard-drive.. the catch... I am in Canada ... they shipped from the US.... Shipping was free but I had to pay duties and taxes which added another aproximate $78 USD to the tab (103 CND)...

The download option would have been fine, I would have got it instantly and I would have avoided the extra fees. The 500 gig USB 3 hard drive is nice but not fully worth the extra money.

Thought I'd mention it to any Canadian thinking of going this route. Use the download option and buy the harddrive locally if necessary.

I was kind of disappointed to learn that you can no longer use reaktor 5 to crossgrade as they dropped the price of version 6. Seems weird as the retail price for v5 was still high enough to qualify. I wonder if they're going to go the same route with Kontakt when version 6 comes out. Was thinking of cross grading to kontakt from drummica in anticipation of komplete 12 next year but don't want to get hosed again. :(

Where's the cheapest upgrade from K9 ?

Post

Depends if you don't mind paying for shipping. AFAIK only NI themselves offer a DL version, therefor, JRR, for example is cheaper than NI's shipped version, but they ship for free. In both cases, physical or DL, I'd personally just get it from NI directly (unless you have a brick an mortar shop that will price match).

After long consideration, I'm going to pass on updating from 9 to 11.

I never use any of the Kontakt samples that came with 9 and that's the bulk of 11 update. I upgraded to Reaktor 6 when it came out and there's no major overhauls of the mainstays Absynth, Massive and FM8.

3 new synths would be nice, but what I really need is 3 more brains to handle what I already got. I'm cool with NI, just no sale.

And please note that if you order from NI, depending on your credit card you may be charged some kind of foreign transaction fee.

That's a pretty sleazy move by NI. I had a crossgrade plan exactly like yours, but I think I will pass on that idea as well.

Thanks for mentioning this. Went for the same deal. Finally going from K5 -> K11. Really just for Reaktor 6, but will enjoy some of the others as well. It will be nice to have a recent license - no telling when the older ones will drop off the upgrade path.

never mind, found it on amazon with free shipping.

Can anyone explain what the (new) copy protection is - I don't have my DAW computer online and heard that unlike the previous set up (service center - or whatever it was called) the latest copy protection requires that your DAW computer MUST BE ONLINE?

Also - does this new c/p auto update and access the NI site for software updates?

Many thanks
Yes and yes.

Woah wait WHAT. I was thinking of upgrading to K11. So if I install it in my laptop and it's on airplane mode I won't be able to work with it?

These copy protection schemes are a good way to combat GAS.

No, not at all... your DAW needs to be online when you are activating your software and when checking for updates, but you don't need a connection to use the instruments once activated.

The thing that's different with Native Access is it offers no offline activation like Service Center did, and now a lot of Native Instruments products are only available for download through Native Access rather than through your user account (and Native Access deletes the installers after installing your products), so there's not an easy way to copy downloaded installers to an offline computer anyway. (If you are quick enough, you can copy the temporary ISO files that download during installation and make backups of them before they're automatically deleted.)

Native Access also doesn't display update/patch information like Service Center did, which used to help me decide whether I wanted to risk installing a patch. Now I just never update unless I'm having a problem that I can't solve otherwise. (There are rumors they're going to fix this though.)
