So don't sweat it. Just make music and we'll listen.
No, please not a Gamelan theme month !!!!!!!!! :!:
What a wonderful idea for next month's theme: GAMELAN!

That's the giant flying turtle from Japan, right?

Why not a monster theme. Godzilla, Gamera, Dracula, Frankenstein, and of course Them! (giant ants).

A Gamelan themed month would be great. Maybe it could be broadened to include other world music styles though (it WAS WOMAD this weekend so it could be a WOMAD theme).
YES!

World music would be somewhat open-ended.

Or what I'm thinking is a contest where alternative scales are required. Anything but that twelve-tone crap you hear everywhere! :D

Thanks a lot....

Now i have to work on my top 10 list.... :help:

Post

Huge Thanks to all the following people for their votes!!! (I forget where I left off with the Thank Yous so some of you get them again!) :D

Kriminal, Freeztar, peppy197, AndrewSimon, Mystahr, Bagungie, RichieBee, Koorby, mr.me, SPYRO, kilroy (yep, mum had the right idea!), wilkoryte, Tancos, sdunn1110 (thanks for the nice review too, mate!!), RayS (Restless Heart. Hmmm I think I remember the name but....... sounds like my sort of thing though), Beardedone (thanks for the caffinated review also!!), Lady J, and especially sttjelle and Xander (big thanks for the nice comments too bro!) for the #1s. I'm not worthy!

Also big thanks to Sepheritoh, Wopelka, and fst for the HMs.

@ RichieBee

No shock here. Your track GROOVES like a Mofo. When I hear it I picture a car chase scene from one of those great 70's era detective shows like "The Mod Squad" or something. Very very cool! It was close between you and ET, but I was kind of leaning your way and Mrs. GJ agreed with me. ET's tune is fabulous also.

Cheers!

You've already got infinitely more votes than I :o
But if it bothers you, I'll just take half of the points you get. After all, it was my idea :D

I love gamelan. And kecak (or 'ketjak'). But my kecak attempt a few months ago went bust: I have to study the form a bit more.

That's what I was trying to accomplish. Even talked to a guy in email who had some notation he wrote down when he visited Bali. But something got lost in translation, and it was lacking some element of authenticity (namely to do with the fact that the groups have upwards to 80 members!), which is why I have to go back to the drawing board.

chuk-chuk-chuk-chuka-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuka....

I have this great old WOMAD tape called "Music and Rhythm" I got back in the early 80's with that mixed into someone's song. I sure wish I could find all those songs on CD.
