Personally i had used teh 8 voice priogrammer in SEM V2 mostly to use different fine tuning and panning for the voices to make the sound "bigger" when played polyphonic.
Yes I believe this is the main idea when using a Two- or Four Voice. Of course you could also dial in completely different patches while still playing polyphonic, I suppose then it would feel loosely similar to paraphonic play.

What's next for you guys on the vintage analogue emulation front Richard?

We still haven't started- right now we are busy with DUNE 3, so another vintage emulation may come afterwards, unless we get started very soon. Currently our preference is to do one of the big poly synths, like the Memorymoog, Elka, JP-8 etc, because it should be interesting to work out the subtle differences between the individual voices, and its impact on the sound. It also depends what we get our hands on, the vintage poly synths are rather rare.

Another reason for us to do poly synths is that essentially we get 6-8 synths in one (one voice board for each voice), which should make an emulation somewhat more generic. With monophonic synths there is usually some variance between instances, and in practice it is impossible to obtain say 8 vintage Model D's and check all of them.

Please do the Memorymoog.

People arent sick of emulations yet? It makes me sad when i see a great dev spending their time making yet another minimoog emulation. Its like, when are we going to get more weird and new types of synthesis? More unique signal paths and clever oscillator types?????

Why to do Memorymoog? isnt its basicly Minimoog with a 1 time injection of steroids?

Also JP-8 is already emulated by Roland :)

By the way Richard, will there be Dune 2 updates? would be great to see some "Analog" like templates (i saw you mentioned something about ability to do that) :)

They simply sell like hot cakes. Baffles me at times but is just one of those realities of life. Can't ignore that as a developer.

I can see that tgey sell well, but what i dont understand is why the minimoog so many times. Im waiting for a virus emulation. Something a little more usefull than a 3osc synth with basic waveforms and no unison.

Well, Roland Jupiter plugin sounds gorgeous, but CPU usage is atrocious and GUI is bad too, so, maybe there's space for a better product than Roland.

All 3 of these are already emulated in software.

Memorymoog by Memorymoon (one alright emulation)
Elka Synthex by Xils (2 good emulations)
Jupiter 8 by Arturia and Roland (one so so emulation and another awesome emulation)

CS-80 has been also emulated by 2 devs, by never completely satisfactorily. Though Memorymoon's is pretty damn good.

This leaves Oberheim, Alesis Andromeda, Rhodes Chroma

IIRC someone is or was working on it? Tbh I don't see the point though, nailing it exactly is unlikely to ever happen, so the best you can hope for is something which can read Virus patches and play them back somewhat correctly. Similar sounds are already possible with plenty of synths, whether DUNE 2 or something else, however, so making a Virus emulation seems like a dead end to me. But we'll see, maybe someone will surprise us with a great emulation :)

I would like to see more physical modeling synths... Stuff like Sculpture, String Studio etc. Their complex non-linear relationships lead to outcomes that while theoretically possible with the usual subtractive architectures, in practice are quite unique.

Post

Why do more emulations? Like Urs has stated above, it's supply and demand.
I'm more likely to purchase an analogue subtractive synth plugin, especially one emulating a classic hardware piece like the Memorymoog, than say a physical modelling instrument, though there's no reason why we can't, as consumers, all be satisfied eventually if developers see a market for their efforts.

None of them well. 75% accurate max.
