I'm looking for a modular host that's a plugin. I have a few of them and most have limitations that annoy me.
MFX-Magma: Serious Reaper issues, this is a deal breaker. I will continue to use this for other things.
Mulab MUX: Won't load Waves plugins, this is a deal breaker. Although I like a lot about this there are two minor points that I would like to improve on. 1) I would like to be able to use feedback. 2) I would like to be able to define panels that use my own filmstrips for knobs and other panel elements.
If Reaktor hosted plugins this would be a done deal. If Max could generate plugins, this would be done. If Flowstone were 64 bit I would deal with other annoyances. If Synthedit ever gets to 64 bit I could make that work as well.
All of that said, Ideally I want something that is like Mux but allows feedback, has a greater facility for GUI design, and will read Waves plugins and work in Reaper. The latter two features being the only major deal breakers if not supported.
I should add that MUX does load MFX which can then load Waves plugins, but, this is a tad too kludgy for my tastes

Maybe get Usine HH, but take advantage of the previous version 5's ability to run as a vst? A deep program, but ticks the boxes...
Otherwise, maybe plague biduke, but the interface building isn't too great.

Man I have tried several times to wrap my head around Usine, it just gives me headaches.Clearscreen wrote:Maybe get Usine HH, but take advantage of the previous version 5's ability to run as a vst? A deep program, but ticks the boxes...

Not yet, MFX comes with the chain component without the rest of the U/I and it has some Reaper bugs. I might demo just the chainer, but, it's not really ticking enough boxes and I suspect that it may also have Reaper bugs.

There's Patcher in FL
... some hoops though
I think SE is 64 bit now?

Oh, they're out of beta, cool! I'll have to revisit it. What are the hoops with Patcher?nix808 wrote:There's Patcher in FL

Patcher only runs inside FL Studio, AFAIK. They had Minihost, but I think they abandoned the project (or put in on hold).ghettosynth wrote:Oh, they're out of beta, cool! I'll have to revisit it. What are the hoops with Patcher?nix808 wrote:There's Patcher in FL

mmm-
yeah Patcher runs inside the FL VSTi,
so it's not straightforward in a minimal setup.
Also I am not sure how multiple audio in pins perform when running FL as a plug- would have to experiment
nice that SE helps

Yeah, that's out of the question. It already adds instability to chain hosts within hosts, but to have to chain another host, that's just not going to work.nix808 wrote:mmm-

SE is more effort initially but can yield a more usable final result. I'll start experimenting with it again.

Hey ghettosynth; have you tried Bidule? I haven't tested it with Waves plugins, but it allows audio feedback and I find it pretty dependable and flexible. Could you elaborate on what you'd like in terms of
? I know Bidule's GUI design options are limited, but I've been using and designing devices in it for years and have found it usually covers my needs/wants. Of course, your needs/wants are surely different from mine. It's parameter linking facility is excellent and can allow designing GUIs in Reaktor or SynthEdit for any other plugin or Bidule patch; if one wanted greater GUI flexibility than Bidule's GUI design options.ghettosynth wrote:...a greater facility for GUI design...

ArtTeknika Console-
only 32 bit, but has DX as well
no support for UI design

Not much is really needed. Just the ability to design a front panel that gets saved with the path and allows a few elements that I believe that I described above. Basically panel elements and knob/switch filmstrips.dformd wrote:Hey ghettosynth; have you tried Bidule? Maybe, I don't believe that it has a U/I designer.
I posted this in the wrong thread:
With respect to Synthedit, I spoke too soon. It's still in beta and there are really severe limitations with the current 64bit host that means it won't work for this particular need. Although, it seems that it is at least able to create 64 bit plugins now, woot!
I looked again at bidule, it's gui designer is terrible.
Ugh, this is a bit frustrating TBH. I'm getting the sense that there really isn't anything that ticks all of the boxes. I might have to settle for some hybrid solution.
Is there an open source VST host that loads Waves plugins?
