so, im almost certainly moving from my 1 br apartment to a house in the next couple of months. right now i can just play my music from my computer and hear it everywhere in my apartment. im looking to use a whole house streaming set up...so i can play music everywhere and out in the yard and such.

i am most likely going to use chromecast audio for this.

i currently have a decent amount of music on my hard drive....and id like to be able to play it over wifi via my phone to the chromecasts in the house. i used to use plex and later subsonic....but i dont want to have to pay a subscription for this. the past year or so ive been using ibroadcast....its totaly free, but it technically doesnt stream from my computer...it uploads from my hd to a cloud server. anyway...i dont really like it. i find the way it categorizes my suff to be a right mess and the app is not easy to navigate.

right now im uploading (again...server cloud) all my music to google play music. its also free...but this upload process is TERRIBLE. since im still uploading (i think this is going to take over a week...for real) i havent really used the app yet on my phone.

now to my question. does anyone have any specific knowledge on how these 2 services compare? pros/cons of each? right off the bat...i dont think ibroadcast is compatible with chromecast audio....and obviously...google play music is.

also...does anyone know a way i can do this by directly accessing the files on my hd instead of uploading them to a cloud? i need to be able to do this with my phone...for free....AND be able to use it with chromecast audio. is that asking too much?? maybe

the old audiogalaxy app was perfection for this (minus the chromecast...as it didnt exist yet)....nothing has even come close since.

thnx in advance.
