Growing up, I'd have to say:
Asia (their first 3 or 4 albums)
Bruce Hornsby (his first 3 or 4 albums)
Depeche Mode

Astralasia - gave me my love of hand-percussion and ethnic sounds / rhythms in my music.
Banco De Gaia - heavy influence on a few of my tunes, always in the back of my mind on others.
Tangerine Dream - even though I don't do that type of modular soundscape, these guys (early stuff particularly) helped get me all fired up over electronic music (along with Brainticket, White Noise etc etc).
Klaus Schultze - see above.
Prog Rock bands for psychedelic ideas.
Space Rock bands for sfx ideas.
Eat Static - because they're leaders (imo) in the Sci-Fi trance genre that I love.
I like Whyterabbyts mention of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Growing up on a diet of Dr Who, Blakes Seven and the ilk and having seen many a documentary on how they put their sounds together, I'd have to agree that these guys definitely helped me get into sound-creation and manipulation.

Influenced the most huh? Well I'd have to say these people:
Janne Valtonen (aka PM futurecrew), Peter Hajba (aka Skaven futurecrew), Trent Reznor (aka NiN, heh), Mike Oldfield.. There's a bunch of others but those are some of the really big ones.

They'd have been formative for me too -- except being a Usonian, I never heard more than tiny bits of their work until long after getting the hang of things.Glassback wrote:I like Whyterabbyts mention of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

If you're interested in this stuff, you might want to try and track down the 3x10" Rephlex released with tons and tons of Radiophonic Workshop stuff.Meffy wrote:They'd have been formative for me too -- except being a Usonian, I never heard more than tiny bits of their work until long after getting the hang of things.Glassback wrote:I like Whyterabbyts mention of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
