my first choice for shopping online is audiomidi.com.

they don't always have lowest price but they can always
price match and they are really kind.

I have had really good experiences with them and their site is
well organized.

or I just visit my local guitar center.

I've had good experience w/AudioMidi as well. Also, Musician's Friend has been very good too.

I like their sites, but don't think I ever bought from SamAsh.com (bought plenty from their bricks), 8thStreet.com and NovaMusik.com

I like musicians friend too.

I once purchased jp8000 from samash but
soon I found out it was out of stock.

they were late on updating their site.
so after that I never used samash.

audiomidi may be great for software, but I'm disappointed in their hardware sales. Twice now I've purchased hardware (headphones, and studio monitors) from them, and in both instances I got old-spec equipment (i.e. the manufacturer has had updated versions out for some time, but I got sent the old/early rev. stuff).

You americans have so many choices! Here in Europe, the only decent one I could find is http://www.musicstorekoeln.de! Oh, well!

There's another good european shop http://www.thomann.de I get most of my stuff there

I like music123.com best...

Or newegg.com if you're lucky and they have what you need... they're more of a computer shop, but they stock m-audio monitors and some sound cards.

audiomidi by far, musicians friend is part of GC, after Mars went out of business I was offered a job by them...I didn't like their policies, their attitude and went to a large local Chain instead. One friend from Mars, one of the best I had there did go to GC. We are no longer friends, I bought my B4 there and was treated very badly, my friend instead of playing straight with me strung me along. I paid for it up front, but it wasn't in stock. There was one in Boston 15 miles down the pike, but I hate going in town...in fact last month a survey showed Boston as the worst city to drive in.

So my B4 was on the next truck and would be there at most in 2 days. A week later I called "what gives" my friend said it got sold in Boston but they were waiting for another truck "any minute". Another week went by no B4, I called I was told it was back ordered by my friend and would be three to four weeks. I contacted GC explained the situation and asked for a refund because I could get it cheaper online anyhow. What a surprise, it came in the next day.

Never did my friend ever have to stoop to trickery and misleading statements to make sales, he was monthly the number one salesman we had...gc did that to him. I had many friends from mars come into my store, I treaeted them and every customer like friends. When I questioned my friend why he treated this way he said I have no friends when I'm at work...so we are not friends anymore...

that surprises me, I bought a midi interface, edirol ua5, edirol ua1x, and my edirol pcr50 there all quite satisfying... :)

www.midi-classics.com

Ugly website, beautiful prices. Consistently cheaper than MF, Sweetwater, or anyone else. RME HDSP 9632 cost me $425 NIB, MF sells em for $600!!

Also I like the fact that midi-classics is basically a one-man operation. Call and talk to Phil when you're looking for prices.

i do most of my buying either directly from the developer (if software) or from local stores...mainly guitar center (i used to tech for them and im still friendly with some of them) and washington music center...but the few orders i've had with audiomidi, novamusik, and soundsonline have all turned out well. WMC is actually in the next state so sometimes i'll order over the phone and have them deliver it to me. in the years i've been dealing with them, i've only had one problem...and in that case it would appear that there were communication problems between a nice, but very scatterbrained, salesman and the purchasing/ordering/shipping departments.

i've ordered from musicians friend 3 times, and each time something went wrong. the first time they tried to pass off a used item as new (new 4 tracks dont have filthy heads). the second time they tried to charge my credit card for a full $1500 after i had purchased it on their payment plan. the third time i actually caught them in a shipping scam. no shit. after that, i swore never to buy from them again. that was years ago, but since then i've seen friends run into trouble with them too.

once i ordered from rogue music in NY. the order went well but i had a lot of problems with them while trying to return a defective midi merge that even the manufacturer supported me on. other people have said good things about them though so perhaps it was just the salesman i was dealing with that was the problem, not the shop. but the situation was troubling enough that i never wanted to deal with them again. by the way...i ended up working things out on that one directly with the manufacturer (philip rees) instead, who were very nice and helpfull.

No one for Sweetwater?

I don't buy a whole lot, but I've found dealing with them pleasant, and their prices on par with the rest.

I've had a good customer relationship with Sweetwater.
