Being a developer myself. I'm traditionally very critical of synths and software, but praise those who shine through.

You are all being way too harsh on the developers of those products mentioned. If a developer is doing wonky business to 'juice' their customers, that's one thing. A good synth at a good price means that the person put their passion into it and when you give them money, you are receiving real love in that exchange because it's more of a donation to their hard and HUMBLE work.

If you want to be a great musician, you need to build a relationship with a synth BEFORE you buy it by using the demo consistently. If you buy it prematurely, too early in the relationship, based on the 'newness' of it.. you will regret it later. Who made that choice to buy it? If you don't have a good relationship with your synth, good music will be hard to find and no new synth will save you. Don't get caught up in looks, it's the connection that matters, and it takes time to build a good one. Buying a synth could be like a marriage from some perspectives.

Most of the synths I've seen mentioned here are amazing given the development behind it. Beep Street is setting a new standard, they have a superior sound, and will soon rival U-he as they stay on course and keep going with what they have been doing. They are hitting all the right notes. They simply need to be clear that activation requires an internet connection, nothing more. Sound Guru also has amazing software. All these guys do. What you want to avoid are the hustlers. those getting your wallet on a string and going subscription.

For profit or for passion? That sets the synths apart truly.. and what you choose matches your soul. Only your heart can tell you what's truly inside the sound. :phones:

NI Reaktor 6
NI Prism
Waldorf Largo
Waldorf Nave Plugin (but I still have and like the iOS version)
AAS UltraAnalog
PPG WaveGenerator
Paying for Camel Audio Alchemy previous to Apple including it in Logic/MainStage.
Since I'm an Apple Logic/MainStage user, I'm using Alchemy (Apple's version) quite a lot again.

Yep. Unfortunately, in my experience Beep Street's customer service is nonexistent. They have yet to reply to any of my emails and I own both Sunrizer and Dagger, so you'd think they'd consider me an important customer worth replying to. On top of that, I haven't seen an update for either synth since I purchased them last year so I'm beginning to doubt that they have plans to address any issues about Sunrizer mentioned here. :?

Yes, BeepStreet is non existent. Customer support doesn't matter at all to them. Shame, because I find Dagger a great synth.

did you have all those regrets 10 years ago when massive was new or did you get it more recently?

I think perhaps any of the amazing development we have seen in the realm of software wavetable synthesis might not have happened had massive not taken such a decisive place in electronic music production...

Alchemy, quite simply disgusting treatment from Camel Audio. Something that can never be forgiven or forgotten.

Zebra, over hyped synth I didn't like, I liked some of the modulation options but it wasn't worth it.

Padshop Pro , never use this, god knows why I bought it. Was cheap at the time though. Im pretty sure I bought it in a bundle with Retrologue , yet Steinberg have revoked my Retrologue license and given it a time limit. They are not to be trusted at all.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

But I do deplore the money I invested in Alchemy because it went Mac alone, Phonem because I don't use it and cannot sell it, and a few kontakt instruments like Alicia's Keys and some Scarbee stuff.
Why don't you like Alicia's Keys? It has a decent sound.

I regret buying Waldorf Edition 2 last year, even if it was for sale price. PPG Wave 2.2V doesn't work properly inside FL Studio, Attack doesn't see much use, D-Pole is still cool but I have something better that I reach for more than often.

Sure but some demos aren't all that respectful of musicians you know? Bursts of white noise, 30 minute limits and no preset loading, disabled features you name it... then like if there's a problem with the demo that ain't in the real deal or the other way around? That doesn't help anyone make informed decisions.

So yea it's exactly like a f*ckin marriage. Sometimes you date one person and wind up with someone else entirely by the time you say I do. Regrets happen man.

I bought Sunrizer back in 2015 but admit i rarely used it since then. While i had done some sound design with most other synths i own AFAIK i did not craete a single patch with Sunrizer yet. I might re-check it soon to see if it makes sense to keep it and if not maybe try to sell it.

No regrets here. I only buy stuff that I know I'll get plenty of use from. Same story with software and hardware. :ud:

As a developer you should know, this isn't in your purview. People are being exactly as harsh as they feel they should be and that's entirely within their purview to do so. The best thing that developers can do, IMO, is listen when people are being critical and look for the consistent threads that may indicate a systematic weakness in their products or support.
