I don't regret buying any synths, Alchemy included :tu:

Post

Novation B-Station (the plugin).

Not because of the synth itself, it is probably excellent... but because I have never been able to install it (I systematically receive an error message about the pathname whatever the pathname I choose, even a pathname outside "Program files") and Novation support never answered my tickets!

Korg MicroKorg. Saw it in a shop for 50. Dunno why i bought it. Piece of shit. Sold it for 110 on ebay a week later, so i guess its not really a regret :hihi:

Regret buying -

software - Seer Systems Reality

hardware - lots of hardware synths I regret buying, but not because they became unusable.

Oh damn :o :)

(Hmm, it's still available to purchase, can to say hardware synth btw :D http://www.seersound.com/ )

NI FM8 - I liked the sounds but really never used it. Also, sound design was too boring ;)

NI Kontakt 5 - always wanted to have it but then I realised i'm more interested in sound design than being a musician / composer. So ... I never really used it :D

Rapture Pro. So not it.

Still loving Alchemy as much as ever.

To be honest, you aren't missing much. The B-Station VSTi is pretty weak IMO. V-Station on the other hand, I still like to add that one to a track now and then.

I still use the original Rapture that I got through CM, but I could never get on with Rapture Pro. Same thing with z3ta+2 versus the original.

I bought it cheap and soon realized that the only way I could use it to my liking was to severely sonically f**k it up. I rarely use it in any case as I have synths that I can program to start out f**ked up.

Didn't know about that one. The software part looks similar.

I bought the software version I have about 20 years ago.

Heh, yes, i guess it's the same software, but stuffed into a compatible old DIY pc. Interesting solution. 8)

Hand on heart, none. Even those that I dislike now, mainly for having a subjectively poor sound quality can once in a while surprise you and bring something unexpected and unique to a track. This weekend I was trying a synth I don't like and stumbled on a very cool sound whilst attempting (originally) a completely different goal, a real WTF and :) moment. If I can get some interesting sounds out of a synth every now and then, it does not have to be a consistent winner, as long as it earns its keep every now and then.

Could another synth make this sound ? Maybe....would I have made this sound in those synths, unlikely.

My approach is to use anything and everything that works in the moments of making music.

No big miss. :P From a nowadays point of view, it sounds pretty poor. V-station is much better.
