There are so many better ideas for tremolo units on the market. And some that are no longer available.
Notice how the tremolo system on the pre-refined parker has a wheel where you can adjust the play of the trem and on the underside a way to toggle between floating and fixed.
Notice the trans trem locks when it is in the down position.
A nice feature about the stetsbar is because of the the was the strings move parallel to the fretboard on a plate you can have low non trem action on a trem unit. As well there isn't the breaking point wear associated with a traditional whammy bar setup
Adjustments to the tension can be made via the top of the instrument rather than flipping it over and removing the spring cover.

Anyways holy cow never thought I'd ever own a real classic type of electric guitar , the guy has like 3 Les Paul's , I guess he now has 2 after today. . Thank you. I always thought of it as just a trem for Les Pauls, I never realized there were actual benefits of it over other trem designs. Listening to those sound examples, it sounds like a Bigsby (a good thing!) except that it stays in tune afterwards (a great thing!).A nice feature about the stetsbar is because of the the was the strings move parallel to the fretboard on a plate you can have low non trem action on a trem unit.

I constantly think about putting a stetsbar on my Tele.

There are similar all steel bridges you can get on eBay for around $30. I installed one into my American Standard Strat and it was a vast improvement, making the guitar sound more like a fixed bridge guitar.
The Telecaster-style bridge we installed on that Strat looks cool but it honestly didn't make a huge difference from the standard Strat fixed bridge, at least nowhere near as much as the solid steel trem on my American Standard Strat.

interesting. maybe i can get around to installing one of those on a guitar which currently has the old-style, 6-screw plate. the 'dual-fulcrum' style, anchored on each side into the body, looks like it would be an improvement.
ok, check it out: the $23 guitar -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/252509813196
maybe if someone needed a cheap experimentation/mod platform...
edit: turns out the guitar is actually around $55. it's sort of a bait and switch. it looks like a guitar in several different colors, but when you click on a guitar (only white available today), the guitar itself is 54.95 or somesuch. in the list of guitar colors, there's an amp you can click on, and that's the $22.95 item.

right? say you wanted to practice fretwork or whatnot, it's almost cheaper than buying a neck by itself. maybe these guitars were going for $75 at one point, and they're having a closeout?
on ebay, i've never seen a new guitar for $23 with free shipping. a lot of times -- particularly in the used market -- they will try to 'sneak in' the exorbitant shipping.
be that as it may, would someone buy one of these $23 guitars and think, 'oh this is all i will ever need'? probably not, but for experiments and maybe some spare parts, wow. even if the pickups work in a rudimentary fashion, they're probably worth $10-$15 right there.

Gotoh makes a nice one for retrofitting on to 6-hole trems. Of course, you could just simply remove the 4 inner screws and change the outer screws to ones with solid shafts near the tops. If you have a drill press, you could even go so far as getting inserts and using machine screws. People are doing that with neck screws, claiming it's a much more solid connection than wood screws, similar to a glued neck. It's actually good logic.Xiangqi wrote:interesting. maybe i can get around to installing one of those on a guitar which currently has the old-style, 6-screw plate.

Hey Uncle E mate-
if you used the insert for a bolt,
you could use a type of bolt called a 'shoulder bolt'
maybe.
it would look pretty sick- the problem is that shoulders are too high usually
This can be solved another way though-
by using a small radius washer on a normal bolt.
It would be easy to turn the 2 washers
