An Essay Revolving Around Music

I don't think its totally unfounded nor unreasonable to state that true artists are people who want to be worshipped. They are people who want to be some kind of god to their fan-base, I can say this with some amount of certainty because I class myself as a true artist.
So what makes a true artist? Well, opinions differ, but my opinion is that a true artist is someone who wants to be worshipped, whether they make money from their art or not. Now worship can be attained in many different ways: A roaring crowd of impressionable teens is not the only way of being worshipped. A film critic taking notice of a director's debut is a form of worship - the director is actually paid attention to. So when I'm called an attention seeker, I will not dismiss the claim - of course I am, why else would I create what I create? But I want that attention on my own terms, not anyone else's.
Of course my main motivation to create music and writings comes from my inner desires to produce something that people will mull over and think about - I'm not concerned with making it as a multi-millionaire, but I also know that I do not want to spend my life wasting it in a factory working for fucksticks who want to be multi-millionaires whilst they f**k over the poor people.
Yes we're a pretentious bunch of folk, and no we don't give a f**k if you think that we're unnecessarily so. Now, onto my thoughts that provoked this writing in the first place - Music piracy.
Piracy, what a degradation of language when applied to music! True artists don't care about money as much as a record label. The labels, distributors, designers and fatcats make the most money out of a musical release - the artist will actually see very little cash. For the true artist the only problem with this is the feeling that they're being used as a form of pornography. Used, abused, and then switched off. The money isn't even of minimal concern.
Now for the f**kers who just want one hit wonders and corporate “algorithms”, piracy is a problem. These people want to create garbage, have it shined in a slick production studio, and churned out to the public like a TV dinner. Its these people that suffer because of piracy, only because they've not received their money. They've provided the image for the authorities to sell to the public, where is their slice? You've had it the authorities say, but its substantially smaller than we predicted due to music theft. So these “artists” and labels go on a rampage, demanding justice and calling upon organisations like the RIAA. This fallacy of musical meandering has gone on for so long that the true artists themselves are starting to believe in it - Metallica are a fine example. Its not a bad thing to make money from your music, because thats one of the aims of all musicians and artists. It allows you to carry on making music forever. Putting money as the primary concern however is detrimental to music and its evolution.
If you f**kers don't want to lose money, here is the solution: PROVIDE A GOOD PRODUCT!! Take care of your customers, listen to their feedback, and stop with the avarice and complacence. Drop the formulas, drop the money making algorithms and start experimenting. Stop with the nonsensical lyrics, and start with lyrics more meaningful. Life is not just about puppy love!!
By reading this small essay and allowing your thoughts to centre around it for a few minutes, you're engaging in worship. People need to redefine their words and their worlds, because our current setup is leading us to an apocalyptic world. Get rid of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism because they're a plague on the Earth!!

Brilliant logic for ya. In our next segment, we'll explain how you can save money by setting all your cash on fire!If you f**kers don't want to lose money... drop the money making algorithms
Sounds like you've already redefined some words. Like "artist" and "worship."People need to redefine their words and their worlds, because our current setup is leading us to an apocalyptic world.
What in the name of f**k are you on about? You think people would listen to better music if the world was run by Hindus and Buddhists and Wiccans or something?Get rid of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism because they're a plague on the Earth!!

Its a footnote. An aphorism that I place on the bottom of all my essays. The devil has all the best tunes.foosnark wrote:My point was that using formulas at the end of the day costs them money, because people get bored of the same old shit. re: worship.
Some of us do what we do in total, and intentional, anonymity. No names, no faces. The music should be important, not the personalities. I like the idea of recordings circulating like mysterious artifacts of unknown origin.
re: piracy.
I've always encouraged the free circulation of my recordings, unless a collaborator disagrees. I still sell cds, but place no limits on circulating copies. As long as I can sell a run of 300-500 to recoup costs, it doesn't disturb me in the least.

Haven't put much on the net myself - hard to maintain decent sound when most of my tracks are 20min+ ...

I'm not an expert of English language, but I think the term for people who want to be worshipped as rock stars is "wannabes."

I don't think anything is wrong with wanting to be worshipped, though. True artists are motivated to create their arts for whatever reasons/obsessions they got.
