stunkit, sounds like you're running into the bug I just fixed. Did you download the latest version? Spiral Generator makes a filtered-saw-like sound out of the box.

Yes, yes! @Architeuthis, I have just come here to say that! Works awesome! Cubase 9 Pro, Win 7. Thanks Architeuthis!

UPD:
Dear author ) I have rewritten my old version with the new one and it works great. But can I have those broken one. I have just thought it can be awesome for resampling. Maybe impossible to make a track for OSC but awesome for an experiments. I rewrote my zip with an old version and did the same to actual .dll, is it possible to get "those" one now (that I downloaded from the web site yesterday)? xD

Has anyone tried this new installer on a mac? My browser is telling me the OS X installer is damaged. For that matter is anyone on a mac successfully using this plugin at all? I am starting to lose hope.

Post

Z' (of old) reported same mac issue on the Slack channel. I guess devs will be on to that asap.

Oh, now this is very interesting! Nice to see a super-experimental plug as the OSC. May make my first ever entry!

For those who don't know, Spiral Generator is more easily understood by looking at what it's doing under a phase scope. The controls make more sense when you view them as controls for drawing shapes rather than as 'directly' controlling sound synthesis.

I'm really pleased that I double checked this thread as I started work last night using the original Spiral Generator. I hadn't noticed that version 2 is out and I'd have ended up using the wrong synth! LFO reset is a brilliant v2 addition that's going to make consistent percussion sounds a lot easier to achieve.

Out of all the things that could go wrong... all the ... THINGS!!!!!! The package was only damaged in the zip file, but the original was not damaged.

Hey everyone, how wild is that one!? :hyper:
I'm having some fun with this quirky exploration unit. I'm using it with MuLab, as per usual, but subsequent instances have the preset bar vanish or somehow offset into the lower right corner (so it seems) with only the name "Spiral Generator" visible. Not sure, if somebody already reported such an issue... but just in case, I'm having the trouble now. It's not crucial, but a bug, of course.

Loads to learn about this one, alone getting the signal into the center is challenging enough that I have to mono it afterwards, hehe.
Also, portamento legato doesn't seem to make a difference to "always"?! Also there doesn't seem to be a retrigger, but I might just not have found it, yet?

Anyway, the sounds one can get out of this are really fun and mean. I suspect this one is going to be another VERY unique OSC. :D
I was a bit bummed out that the scope wasn't part of it, I have to admit, but I also understand the wisdom behind it! GL everyone and thanks, Arch, for bravely offering your synth for the OSC. :tu:

no idea why you would want this: http://www.elanhickler.com/Soundemote/S ... broken.dll

It will be registered as the same plugin as the non-broken one I think, some hosts might not differentiate the broken version vs the working version.

screenshot for me plzzz?

Have you tried just using one channel (left or right) instead of trying to combine it into stereo mono?

Post

AH, classic...I started up MuLab again and load the project and all instances are fine... OF COURSE! :tantrum:
So, yeah...when I come across it again, I'll make a screenshot.

As for mono, that's the same thing...how I turn it mono afterwards is not the complication, but that's a nice way of doing it, too, if one wouldn't want the complexity. Might be a better approach for the kick, though! Thanks for reminding me! :tu:

Thank you, the design part didnt take long because the synth just automatically starts producing screeches and textures with minimal input, arranging them and leveling in the mix was difficult
Architeuthis wrote:loris16148, very happy with what you created! Love the cinematic feel. Finally someone other than me has used spiral generator correctly. :)
loris16148 wrote:Spiral Generator 71 instances used.
wait... holy s***... that a lot...
Yes I may have had only about 50 live instances and then i rendered some stuff out. I really didnt think this thing was capable of sounds like these until i started experimenting, then it became clear what this synth was intended for. Its good to hear that the creator is happy with the sound!
stunkit wrote:Loris - First Impact by @loris16148 - Jeez, that's awesome! I will rate it as 5 xDDD

As for me I couldn't get any pitchable sounds, every key on a keyboard generates not tonal but FM synth without 'Ratio' parameter. So I have no idea how to make ARPs like those one in this track. Need somke the synth more, I guess. No luck with saw too ( Maybe a 'default' preset with that one would be useful too.
Thanks Ill take that rating with pleasure! The arp was a complex sound in that there was a lot of modulation and layering but other than that its not that hard to reproduce, it was the last sound i created for this project. First thing is first, I created a midi pattern that represents that up and down melody seen in trailer music. The envelope already controls amplitude by default in the synth so i just reduced the sustain a bit so that each note is very short. Then I addedd a bunch of LFOs to modulate the sound but not to modulate the pitch of the sound (after experimenting with all the functions first). Then I layered this arp with the same sequnce except an octave higher, then I addedd another arp with a slightly different midi pattern and slighly different modulation as the third layer. then finally I addedd a low pass filter to bring the arp in and out of the mix. and thats pretty much it.

Awesome, that did the trick! Thank you. Seems to be working fine in Logic now too, just so you know.

So bad news: I tried making the algorithm more efficient, it just ended up using more CPU. So I am giving up on that, and I am telling the original author to come up with a more efficient algorithm. Maybe he will, maybe he won't.

Good news: Spiral Generator won't be the last synthesizer in this class. There will be more, some that you may even like better than Spiral Generator, some very unique ones too.

btw, there will be a kickstarter... don't have much more details at the moment. (I will just be involved in the Kickstarter btw)

jeez, forgot to increase the version number again, there was a serious bug that caused SharpCurve to do the wrong thing.

http://www.elanhickler.com/Soundemote/S ... ator_2.zip

If you already started composing, do not update your version. If you update by mistake let me know I'll upload the older version for you.

This breaks some of my percussion presets as well... I'm asking the original author of the algorithm if he knows a way to bring back the behavior of the buggy version because the bug actually introduced an interesting modulation on the spiral.

Hi, a little confused. Are you saying this latest version for download HAS a bug which breaks percussion, and the previous version (-1) the one to continue to use with your perc presets?

Thanks for actively working on this different synth.
