No difference between 300$ and 2000$ speakers.

Hi !
This is just to relate an experience I had.
5 months ago, I was using Rokit 6 G3.
I then upgraded to Munro Egg100 monitors, wich cost 2000 dollars.
I am in an untreated room (just some foam) (but relax, I use Reference 3 and everything is okay !).
When I first played with my brand new speakers, I was impressed by the dynamic, by the pan field they have. By the sound wich was more "in your face" than the rokits one (the rokits sounded way more boxy in comparison).
But, let's talk about the frequency response...
Finally, I didn't make so much differents... Of course the Rokits sound was more hyped, but, really, nothing was making a huge difference.
I think that the reason is because I have no acoustic treatment.
What do you think of it ? Did you ever experienced the same thing ?

So if the stereo field was improved with the $2000 speakers, then there was a difference between $300 and $2000 speakers.

If you take the best monitors you can get for $300, and compare them to average $2000 monitors, i'm sure the difference won't be huge. And, from a $1000 upwards, i'm sure the differences will be subtle at best. But then, why not. It is great that we have montiors in a big price range.

So your $2000 speakers have improved dynamics, sound less boxy, don't have flattered or hyped frequency extremes and have a better overall sound stage, but because their frequency response isn't hugely different (which really can't be as both are 2-way boxes with small sized bass/mid drivers) then you don't think the extra was worth it? If you want more bass then don't get mini speakers with 5" bass cones.NotreDame wrote:Hi !

Wait until you check out £x000 vs £x00 preamps, AD/DA converters, monitor controllers etc.

I guess I may have misunderstood due to your not being a native English speaker.NotreDame wrote:No difference in the frequency curve...
Because, as I see it, the speakers you ended up with seem to offer a lot more bang despite the freq. issues.

See that :
This is the frequency response of my "2000 dollars" (+ sub) speakers into my room.
What is flat here ? What looks like 2000 dollars in that curve ?
Nothing. By just viewing the curve, I would say it is cheap 150 dollars monitors.
But you get this "analog class A amplifier + new technology of speakers shaping".
That's why I think this is 100% useless to get this kind of monitors in an untreated room.
