Thanks Andy....
so far only some OCD stuff.
like at the bottom of the gui.
Needs some cleaning up ...

This is deliberate. It shows clearly you can't see the entire GUI at the moment and that it is contracted.

Ok.
Can't say I agree with you, but clearly it is your call.
I can't think of a single contracted GUI I use, NI stuff, Alchemy, Dmitry Sches, DMG Audio, Fab Filter and on and on and on that does this.....

I make the knobs and buttons disappear, so I don't mind changing the bottom divider boundary as well if a majority of people would prefer that. My main concern is someone not used to the plugin looking at it for the first time and thinking there is no modulation available. Can some more people please chip in with what they think?

I may be the only one that cares alas.....lol

but surely, photos on the net, youtube, your site, the manual and the large button that is marked MOD should clue them in :-)

I think it looks a little clunky in its current form. That said, I'd be completely fine with it staying as is too. It's just not a big deal to me. I'll be keeping the Mod window open, and just ignoring the other sections of the UI when I'm not using them.

Why not have the MOD button flash on/off or change colour when there are MOD's in use.
Of course, you would have to make it an option to turn it off cos the people that don't like their GUI to change or distract them would complain.

Just a thought...I'll get me coat.

I actually thought of the flashing, but it may affect some people..

But the option would solve that. Just I imagine more work for Andy.

I've just a quick bit of research on the possability of triggering off epilepsy - it would seem that the lowest frequency thought to be a trigger is 3Hz.
If I had some button or light flashing at me that fast I'd get pretty annoyed with it.

Perhaps a pulsing button would be a better way of putting it, say at 1Hz or even less.

This time, I am getting me coat...

thanks :-)
I didn't know that.....(re flashing frequency)

The main issue is that The Drop is designed as a physically plausible rack mountable device, none of the other plugins you mention are like this.

My main motivation in doing this is I like the constraint that hardware imposes - only the most important things are added to keep both manufacturing costs down and also headspace costs, and reduces the footprint of the device.

You can make it so that for the first time the plugin is opened it is full UI and with info about the collapsed UI possibility. Or even Basic/Full question if user wants Basic or Full operation with short info about the difference.

This isn't so much if they have the plugin installed and are trying it out as it will open with MOD on. I'm talking about someone seeing a screenshot of the plugin or video of the plugin in this mode and not knowing it has LFOs, Envs etc.

Ah, yes.. But I think anyone on the market for a great filter plugin do research what is available and come to your website anyway.

If you want it to feel rack mounted, but be able to hide some controls, why not one of those flip down control panels like on old VCRs with a little tab that says MOD. Click MOD and the whole panel opens. (If I remember correctly, my VCR had a tracking thumbscrew hidden there.)

I've done a render with a nice bottom border with MOD off. I've also added an HD button for the envelopes to bump up the solver to the same quality as I use in The Glue, which will be good for using The Drop as a feed forward dynamics processor. Release coming in the next couple of days, which is made much easier by me having finally automated the entire build and release system with scripting! (why didn't I do that years ago?)
