Thanks. Glad you like it.
Would I be right to presume that by "a vintage look" you mean that pinnacle of non-functional skeuomorphic silliness - the wooden end-cheeks? ;)

Hah yeah. No just forget the wooden cheeks thing. What about something like this:

BojanKerkez wrote:Even though I've never really used this synth, after making several skins for Charlatan 2 last week, in my ongoing process of learning Affinity Designer, I've decided to make a skin for this one too.
It was much more time consuming than I expected, given that there are fourteen files to replace (unlike Charlatan's one), and I will probably do some further refinements and maybe even other versions down the line, but for now here is a version 1 that shares the same theme with some of my Charlatan skins:

Unfortunately, I couldn't (figure out how to) replace the unsightly preset browser, but everything else is completely new.
If anyone likes it, here is a link to the resource file and for those who have never done it before, a short on how to replace the skin with Resource Hacker.
Excellent skin, well made sir :tu:

That would demand a completely new design and I just won't have enough time to create it. But I did have enough time this evening to finish a different, more colourful version that I've been experimenting with alongside the first design. I've added the wooden end-cheeks to it just to see how it would look and I have to admit that I actually like it. :)

Thank you, Russell. Glad you appreciate these first attempts of mine at making skins for freeware synths.

Though it should primarily be about the way they sound and how easy it is to use them, I find that I'm far more likelier to use a synth if it is also pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, in my opinion at least, many of these freeware synths and effects are lacking in the looks department when compared to the commercial offerings and I think that's why we sometimes tend to subconsciously underestimate them and their capabilities (well, I most definitely have been guilty of doing that). And many of them are quite capable of achieving all kinds of interesting sounds.

By making these synths more visually appealing, I'm first of all trying to remind myself that I don't really need to look elsewhere and spend money when there are so many of these free synths out there. And if some else likes them too, all the better. Cause it's always encouraging to get positive feedback on one's creations.

Anyway, here are the final versions, with some slight modifications to all of them, of my skins for this synth. Clicking on images leads to the resource files on my Google Drive.

Took me a few minutes to spot the differences,
because they all use my favourite preset "Defalut" which is AFAIK a French variation of "Default" 8)
BTW nice skins :tu:

Well said, Bojan!
It's impressive that the skins for Lokomotiv and Charlatan are your first GUI designs! They look polished and professional!
As for the final 4 Lokomotiv skins you posted here: they all look great. The difficult part will be choosing which one to use! :hihi:

BTW how does one change the Lokomotiv skin on Mac? IO can't figure it out as I don't see any resources matching the names of the skins posted in this thread. Lokomotiv is such a killer synth when you want its specific hard sound, but I would definitely prefer using it with a nicer skin!
